Sony Reader PC Software

I know that many dislike the sony software, but I for one like it. It works on my slate pc. And one of the features that I really like is, if I buy a book from the sony store through my desktop, the book also appears on my slate, and vice versa.

Mmmmm....

Introduce yourself to Calibre, and realise the shortcomings of the Sony junkware .............

Ditto. It's very insidious though; one thing I hate about it is that if I use it to open a book, it automatically sets itself as the default program for the same file type!

It is still the best option if you are trying to manage annotations and highlights. I love Calibre, but it won't replace SONY's software until it allows for highlighting, bookmarking, annotating, etc.

Somehow ironically, the annotation feature seems to work best with the 950. I hear it does not sync page read/annotations with the T1 over wifi. Which is weird. But I use it with the 950 and it works. Most of the time. In a very clunky, user-unfriendly, way. But I still don't see any better options.

I do the same but I do add books I buy from kobo to my library just to have all my library in one spot and extra back up

Although since getting a new laptop with windows 7 the Sony software is so much better now.

I use calibre for my library. Books from Sony, Gutenburg, Baen, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon. All in calibre. Sortable, taggable, etc.

How do you get Sony books in calibre? I haven't figured that out.

and if you have to strip the drm I can't figure that out I've tried and I'm lost on something in the instructons.

For DRM, you need something called 'Apprentice Alf'.

If you google it, you will find download and install instructions easily.
Once you have that, you can just drag-and-drop any epub (SONY books) or other files to import and remove DRM.

I have Sony Reader for PC and Sony Reader on my Sony Tablet S.

Unfortunately, Calibre doesn't recognise my Tablet, so I am unable to download epub or PDF.

Sony is not that great in the land of Oz.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

*Note* Calibre works great on my K3's, and on my iPad2.

Cheers.

Get Aldiko and try these instructions. You don't need to "plug in"to transfer books to a tablet, you can transfer wirelessly. Aldiko puts the book right on the bookshelf when you bring it in from Calibre. It also allows you to bring in library/DRM books when you input your ADE username and password in Settings.

Aldiko is great for US, Canada and UK, Those of us 'down-under' are not so favoured.

Back to the drawingboard.

Cheers.
