Question re: text clarity
I have been reading a lot about text clarity on the new Nook Glowlight and have a question? How does the clarity of the text compare between the 1st Gen Nook and the Nook Glowlight?
I am on the waiting list for the NSTG because I do most of my reading in bed, and because my faithful old Nook is getting rundown. Hear great things about NST. Since the Glow version is so new, would I be better off getting the NST or splurging on the Glow? Marie |

I have the Nook Simple Touch and the Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight. Side by side, on a bright sunny day or even a bright room, the contrast on the NST is definitely better than the NSTGL. But the GlowLight really makes it convenient to read on in all situations other than the bright sunny day I mentioned above. Having said that, I chose the NST as my go-to reader.

For me the Glowlight feature would not be worth another $40. But I rarely read in lights-out situations (or I'll use a backlit device in 'night mode' for that). You can save another $20 by purchasing a refurbished NST.
But I can see the appeal, even for $139, especially if this is going to be your main, go everywhere reading device. Given how carelessly I sometimes treat my devices, though, I'd be a little concerned about the reported fragility of the light layer. I don't like to use covers (bulk, expense) so it's likely I'd eventually ding the thing. I'd rather have something that is cheaper and can take a bit of abuse. |

Depends on what you want from the device. I like the STGlow and find the light a real bonus in low-light conditions (it is really, really bright in no-light conditions). The 'text clarity' IMHO is similar to the 1stGenNook, but I find that the onboard glow helps increase the readability in low-light conditions. It's my choice for bedtime reading.
Also, I find it processes book search and page turns noticeably faster off of the micro than my ST. |
