When does the Sony Reader Store update its weekly specials?

Thanks! I can't find this info anywhere.

I haven't bought a book there in a long time... Kobobooks is usually less expensive (eg Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton is 11.99 at Sony, 9.99 at Kobo) . Also in the Kobo forum, you find a thread about coupon codes which are how Kobo discounts non-agency books. They are very helpfully listed out by members that have received them by email and by changing the country component of the code (replacing "ca" with "au" etc.) you can buy multiple books with the special discount.
You can't load them directly to the Sony but download to ADE on your computer and then onto the Sony reader. They regularly have 20-30-40% off (non-agency only, so same as any other bookstore). My other alternates are booksonboard and dieselebooks. If you use Calibre, you will find there's an icon on the toolbar that allows you to select multiple stores and verify which one has the best price for a specific book.
All that to say that having had a Sony reader for many years, and despite having replaced my old prs505 with a T1, I don't use their store any more even though I love their hardware...

Thanks for the info. I will check it out. What does "non agency book" mean?

Certain publishers use what is called "the agency model" (Harper Collins for one) in which they dictate the lowest price the bookseller is permitted to sell at. This means that Amazon, Kobo, Sony etc are not allowed to discount below that price. Any non-agency books can be found at varying prices and may be discounted. You may have seen some articles in the news about this lately... The US government is taking the "agency" publishers to court, as well as Apple (this all started because of an arrangement with Apple)

I don't know. I only go to the Sony Reader Store once a month. I usually buy my agency model book then. The rest I sideload from places like Books on Board or Smashwords.

Is there a list anywhere of notable non-agency books?

No, but you can see the difference on Kobo's site, they are listed at full price with no discount. The discount codes can be applied to any books with 2 prices quoted in the listing (any non-agency books are always offered at a price lower than the full price). Also you would discover at checkout when you try to apply the discount code in the promo box (with a message) that you can't use a promo code with that book. Works the same at Booksonboard.
