How do you like reading on your iPad?
I have an ipad2 and read a lot. I love that it has always backlight but it's quite heavy and big to bring it with me as a smaller Sony for example. (i mean take it on the road when i work). How do you like it? Feel the need for dedicated ereader just for reading?

I do not read on the ipad at all. I would use it to read only if nothing else was available. I can't imagine not having a pocket ereader to take everywhere (5") to me that's the best combination.

I love it.
I had a PRS-650 and didn't use it as much as I thought I would. I couldn't read for really long periods without feeling tired and seemed to have trouble focusing on the text. I don't have any problems like this with my iPad with the exception of the nighttime setting. I tried that last weekend while in bed and gave up after an hour due to eye strain and slight headache. I still use my Opus daily for reading, but I am also increasingly using my iPad. Usually the iPad is only for graphics-heavy books, or comic books (love the Comixology app), or pdf books that are not readable on a smaller screen. But I even occasionally read a "normal" text-only book on the Kindle app. Oh, and I almost forgot, I read newspaper on dedicated apps on the iPad (Le Monde and the New York Times). Plus a very occasional magazine.
I have set the brightness to a low setting, and in the Kindle app I use the sepia tones, which I like very much for a comfortable reading. So all in all I do quite a lot of reading on the iPad, but it's mostly more like browsing than reading: usually I don't read for a long time, it's more one news article or a few pages of a comic, or a web page, then move on to something else. To read literary books, my choice is still the Opus and I don't see that changing in the near future. |

I read magazines(zinio) on my ipad but not books. I find the ipad heavy, the screen hurts my eyes and the touchscreen annoying when I accidentally page turn with it.
For reading I prefer my dedicated ereader. |

I do my plain text reading on my Nook Color rather than my iPad, because I find the smaller size more comfortable to hold for long reading sessions. I don't use my eInk device at all. The only time I could see myself using it if I were planning a long trip where I knew I would be outside for almost all of my reading time.

I have an iPad 2 but the only thing I read on it is comics/manga. After having been spoiled with retina display on the iPhone 4, I just couldn't bring myself to read the heavily pixelated text on the iPad's screen. Besides, it's just too darned heavy for marathon reading sessions.
I also have a PRS-350 but I don't use it as much as my iPhone (primarily because I tend to read in low-light environment). |

I read on my iPad offer and like it a lot. The weight doesn't bother me. I love reading on my Nook Color, but the iPad is the first thing I grab when I sit down to read.

I read magazines and comics on my iPad but for novels and the like, I swear by my Sony 650. My wife reads more on her iPad than her 950 though. I think is has to do with her love of fanfic which she gets via email.

I do most of my reading on my iPad. I also have a sony PRS-505 for backpacking trips. I just picked up a kindle fire as a device to carry when the iPad is too much (i.e. when I walk somewhere for lunch).

Reference books/PDFs I read nearly always on the iPad. Fiction books I'm pretty much eink dedicated.
I don't mind reading on either but the kindle is lighter so I find it more comfortable for fiction books and in summer will read outside a lot. iPad however is nicer for the PDFs due to the larger screen and fast response. |

When I got my iPad, I thought I'd read all the time on it, and I did read some but my eyes would get tired. I eventually got a b/w Nook STR, which I find to be easier on the eyes.

I browsed web sites and news (Zeit, Mashable, etc.) with my ipad2, but never read long articles with it (I rather sent it through email and printed it out for reading). Then I got my ebook reader (EzRead Touch) two weeks ago, eventhough it is a little slow in response (compared to ipad2), but I can read long articles and novels with it comfortably.
BTW, I love the airplayit apps for ipad2, I used it to play video files when I'm not sitting in front of my PC sometimes and it is really great. Last edited by hch568; 12-14-2011 at 11:17 PM. |

I have an e-reader for reading 'fun' books, and use the iPad for work related literature, pdf-s and scientific papers. E-readers don't give me the functionality I need for work. At the same time I like to read on e-ink when I can, so all non-work related reading is done on my T1 or Kindle.
