Posting Pulse comments on iOS

I fear I may be being a dense day, but I cannot for the life of me work how to post new comments in Pulse on iOS. On the Vox there was a clear get text box but there doesn't seem to one on the iPhone and iPad apps, and that's gotten me doing this:

I can see the comment feed in books and I can comment on other comments, but how post my own new comments? What am I missing Mobileread?

We've moved things around in the last update (there should be a help tip when first reading after upgrading to explain it). Comments are now posted by making public notes: just highlight some text, create a note, and tap the checkbox to share to Kobo.

There are two big benefits to this:
•Public notes include the highlighted text for reference
•Public notes appear in the margins next to the text they reference
