Sturdiest case?
I just found my kindle broken for the THIRD time now in several months and I'm pretty upset. Amazon have replaced it for me twice without any quibbles (smashed screen I mean, the surface is physically ok looking but only half of it refreshes like the e-ink layer is smashed).
I'm not going to ask them to replace it a third time because it is clearly unrealistic for them to do so and it's also clearly somehow my fault. My kindle rides in my bag and is in the official kindle case but this doesn't seem to protect it. It sits in a pocket in my bag alone so nothing else is damaging it but this has happened repeatedly. If I decide to save up and purchase another kindle I need to find some kind of nuke proof case to protect it. I don't care if it's a case or a sleeve but I need something that can take a beating without my poor kindle being destroyed. I'm seriously so upset about this, I can't imagine being without my kindle, but I also can't buy a replacement right away. |

I use the Marware cover sold by Amazon. It has no metal hooks and is NOT a hard cover. It is a solid soft cover leaving openings for all keys and ports and has a finger strap to prevent dropping.
It also has a flip back stand for table reading. |

like kkitten says, check out the top of the kindle section.
sounds like even something as simple as the standard amazon case will help you- anything that protects the screen. |

You may like take some passive measures. Its not as sturdy as a mobile. You must keep it at a place where it does not get knocked around. Without these any case wont suffice your need. |

etsy.com has a solid wood case that is made custom for the Kindle. You may check it out. The guy is pretty cool and will make you whatever case you need, if you just ask him.

I think apenney should consider just going back to hardback books. You can throw those at moving vehicles and they'll survive.

Here is maybe the most rugged case made for the Kindle 2
http://www.amazon.com/M-Edge-Guardia...pd_rhf_shvl_13 http://www.google.com/search?aq=f&so...a4fa0fe339f87d Only problem is finding cases for older Kindle versions can be quite a challenge as most go out of production just prior to the release of new Kindles. Of course that depends on exiting stock and how many old versions of the Kindle will still be sold on Amazon. |

I recommend finding a padded, zip-up (or otherwise fully enclosed) Kindle 2 case. It should fit a covered K3. I have one of these. You could practically drop it from a building in that thing. I carry it in a messenger bag, but it may be a bit bulky for you depending on what kind of bag you carry. It was $8 when I bought it, for some reason. There are other options. Like this, or this.

heck a person could just stick some memory foam inside any case between the flap and the front of the Kindle if one is being frugal. Me? I want something rigid protecting the screen. Maybe slip a piece of 1/16" (1/8" would be better and not flex at all) aluminium sheeting in between some memory foam and wrap that with some sort of soft material then use that inside the standard case would do the job as well.

You might to try re-enforcing your bag instead using some aluminium or polycarbonate sheet.

Obviously, both twisting forces and objects/pressure points against the screen have to be avoided. Protecting against both types of force require rigid and possibly heavy sheeting. A lexan sheet of appropriate thickness might serve as protection. Aluminum unless thick will still twist or dent.
