HELP
my enTourage pocket eDGe is stuck/frozen. I was reading a book and when I went to turn the page nothing happened. I flipped it over and found the table side dark and blank, pressed all the buttons nothing. ok shut it off, no change ebook side still shows the page I was on nothing works. Turned it on { the power light shows it to on or off} did this a few times nothing. Next came the paper clip and a reset, reset powered it down, but ebook still shows and when powered it back up nothing but the page I was on with no response from pressing any of the buttons. Pressed and held menu button (along with all the rest), let sit overnight both on and off, plugged it in to it's power source and did every thing again, nothing. even tried to reset the op system, (updated to allmine long ago). Nothing but the page from the book on one side and a blank black screen on the other. This really sucks this is my main note book for school and work. I have every thing backed up, but I love this ebook/tablet set up and hope someone has a idea to fix it. I found a replacement on ebay but would keep my old one. Any idea's.... anyone??

You might check the voltage coming out of the power pack. Or if you have another power pack.
If all else failed I would put a firmware file on the card and see if it would install it. Hopefully someone much wiser will have better ideas. |

I wouldn't totally give up on re-installing the Operating System. The update / re-install experience has been frustrating for many owners with a working eDGe. There are several choices you can try including a modified Dingo version built especially for devices having a problem with the recovery installer. Personally I would try all forms of the OS including the original Dingo 1.3. Please take a look at my Resource Sticky which has some tips for recovering a bricked eDGe, and more importantly links to helpful threads with lots of good information and advice from owners who have actually bricked and fixed their eDGe.
One final option you can try that works quite often with dead laptops is to remove the battery and hold the power button for about 30 seconds and try powering it on with just the charger. However, this will take a little work as you will have to take the back off of the e-reader. Of course, there is no guarantee this will work either and this should be considered an absolute last resort. Here's some photos which will help: http://s280.photobucket.com/albums/k...Pocket%20eDGe/ Last edited by obsessed2; 05-09-2012 at 10:21 AM. |

In other words you don't know whether it is updating or not because of a blank screen, but assume that the update didn't start and try some of the things other owners did (e.g. different SD card, USB thumb drive, or another OS download). You never know you might hit upon the right combination and the update might start up the screen. A couple of questions: Is there a blinking cursor in the right hand corner of the screen when you first power on? Do you have a USB drive with a LED indicator? If it blinks rapidly when attempting an update this would at least let you know the eDGe is trying to read the update file and there is another problem. Also, cables on many hinged devices like laptops can become slightly unseated over time. Take a look at photo # 15 from the link in my previous post and you will see several different cable connections to the main board. Last edited by obsessed2; 05-09-2012 at 04:17 PM. |

Took a screw driver to it, checked the connections and did the battery reset, no change. Working on updating it now.
No there is no blinking light in the top right hand corner. Still playing with it but I think its DOA. I hope someone brings out another dual book, the system is idea for students and people in science and engineering fields. That was the problem why it's not made any more, I think. It was not for entertainment so much as for work. Sad really says a bit about the society we have now, to much fun and games and not too much work. ![]() Thank you for the help and if there is any other idea that comes to mind please let me know. |

Kookie, one thing springs to mind - are you sure that your PE is charged? A flat battery would give the symptoms you are seeing.
There is one way to check that your battery is being charged but it requires the use of a volt meter. With the meter set to a range that will display 12volts and the charger plugged in to the mains check the voltage at the plug to the PE - centre hole is positive and outer shell is negative. It should read 12volts. If it doesn't then you have a faulty charger and your battery is most probably flat. Another thing, the blinking cursor is a small line in the top LEFT of the screen. |

ivanjt is right when he says the blinking cursor is a small line. However, the cursor position may depend on screen orientation. I just turned on my Pocket eDGe which I use with the LCD screen on the right and verified the blinking cursor appears in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
I'm sure you probably already checked this, but in reference to a possible dead battery, when you turn the unit on does the green power indicator light come on? If not, did you try removing the battery and see if it will power up with just the charger? Last edited by obsessed2; 05-10-2012 at 08:30 AM. |

obsessed2, you are most probably correct about the cursor position on an unmodified Edge, I can't remember where it was on my EE before I changed it to show a progressive series of dots - I had tried to get it to give the boot up text to say what was going on.

This sounds very similar to what happened to my daughter's PE in January. More information on our problem what we did to fix it here, posts #8 and #9.
Maybe you'll get lucky and be able to secure the cable and fix the problem. . . |
