Original Kobo problem
Hello all,
I am having a problem with my original Kobo. First I have to say that I think it's of my own making. I downloaded some books from, lets say, a dubious source. Some I've had no problems with. But, there have been a couple that when I get part way through, the page turns slower, and, slower, until finally the machine just sits and does nothing. If I then leave it and come back several hours later, it still shows the same screen. I put my handy paper clip pin in the reset hole, click it, plug it into my USB port and it'll start again, only, if I try to open that book again, it does the same thing. I don't expect an answer as to how I can fix it, I know I need to dump those books. What I want to know is, are there corrupt books that can give a reader problems? ps. I can read the books fine on my PC in Calibre or using Firefox plugin. |

Yes, there are - I had a problem with a book (from a legit site!) that froze my Sony, presumably because there was some coding issue. Suggest you connect it to a PC and take off the books and see what happens. Might also be worth running an AV scan on the PC and on the ereader while it's plugged in, just in case the books weren't all you downloaded!

Thanks for that. PC was scanned yesterday and this book has been on the Kobo a few days. I doubt virus, though we all say that don't we.
I have removed the book and the Kobo runs fine, for now. I added a new one, it seems to not happen until I'm some way into the book. So at least I'll get a read tonight. I'll finish the other book via Calibre reader. Interesting what you say about the coding issue, I suppose a problem the Kobo has is, it's the original and is very slow, give it a problem and it goes ga-ga. The PC has triple cores and 2 Gigs RAM to play with, what happens on the Kobo overnight happens on the PC in a twinkling. |

Have you tried an epub to epub conversion on the book in Calibre? It may fix the problem for you on your reader.

That should probably work, it worked great for the few eBooks that I have made which Calibre found a lot of mistakes in.
