Reasonable estimate for Calibre conversion of large ebook?

I just purchased one of those massive 25 MB books from Amazon...complete works of Thomas Hardy. It's very decently formatted, but i HATE when ebooks have "dumbquotes" instead of smartquotes.

I've been running it through Calibre for almost an hour now mobi>mobi -- the only option selected is "Smarten punctuatiion", nothing else being touched. The book _does_ have numerous illustrations...but should it be taking this long? Any estimates based on past experiences? And, more important, can Calibre be expected to convert such large books?

PS: Just found out...at least with this ebook: 94 minutes. I'd never waited that long for previous conversions -- 10 MB was about as large as I've done -- but at least I know that Calibre can convert _very_ large ebooks. And the smartquotes are all there...

Size is not the only criteria for conversion time.
A well coded book original converts fast. Messy coded, short books can take hours.
