Amazon Kindle publication rights
Hi to all on these forums. I'm new here. I'll try to be brief in asking the first, and at present most important question, that I need answering.
I wish to publish a novel (on behalf of a friend) in eBook format(s). My immediate objective (rightly or wrongly) is to publish it initially solely in Kindle format. What I need to know, before all else, is whether, having done so, I can subsequently withdraw it from distribution by Amazon, and if so what are the restrictions, if any. I have heard some rather alarming stories (from very "inside sources") about Amazon's policies in areas like this. I'm sure this information could be ferreted out however it would be helpful if someone could give me advice at this "square one" stage. Thanks! Roy |

If you sign up to Amazon Select you have to leave it as an Amazon exclusive for 3 months. If you don't you can list it anywhere you like. You can withdraw it any time you like either way, but if you signed up for Amazon Select you still can't list it anywhere else until the 3 months is up.

I didn't think this was going to be easy but I did underestimate the horrible morass that ePublishing has already become. A Google search for "Amazon Select" - which meant nothing at all to me - revealed some hideously complicated set of factors about which I am utterly unable to make any determination.
Is there anywhere which has a step by step introduction to the basics of this stuff? I am more than computer literate however the thought of having to digest terabytes of peripheral information make me want to abandon ship already. Roy |

What kind of basics are you looking for: formatting or publishing? Neither is particularly hard, although I would avoid some of Amazon's documentation on it. It isn't the best in the world.
As for KDP select, publishing via it is no different than publishing to Amazon without it. It is simply an exclusivity clause in return for a few extra perks to help promote your book. |
