Question kindle and Calibre

I have a Kindle 3 wifi (no 3G) and use Calibre to manage my books… Recently I’ve come across an issue and I don’t know how to fix it… When I upload books to my kindle it will transfer the ‘new’ book but also ‘remove’ a book already in my kindle ( I notice that the green checkmark will come up for the new book but will disappear for one in my kindle – I’ve disconnected the kindle to see if it’s there or not and it isn’t) this specially happens with books in a series! Also I’ve noticed that if I transfer more than 4 books at a time not all of them get sent to my kindle, it randomly picks from the batch… This is really frustrating me…

I hope someone has some tips or answers

Not trying to disparage Calibre in any way, I think its a great software program, I would question the need for it with a Kindle. Kindle format books are available at several large companies and the last time I looked probably 90% of every book ever written is available in a Kindle format. Thus I have not downloaded nor do I use Calibre. However I think that if I ever had the need to translate books between any format I would most likely use Calibre to accomplish the task.

er - how does that help anyone ???

I don't get how " I have not downloaded nor do I use Calibre" qualifies you to even have an opinion on this issue

I could list lots of reasons why calibre+Kindle is a worthwhile combo but 99% of other readers here will already know that :-)

Two reasons immediately spring to mind:

1. Library management. You're a fool if you rely on any third party to keep your books safe for you. The books are only safe if they're under YOUR control. You need to store them; Calibre is the easiest way to do so.

2. Book maintenance. Commercial eBooks often come with no cover image and messed-up metadata. Both of these are trivial to sort out with Calibre.

3. (OK, so I can't count...). Series maintenance. With a Calibre plugboard you can easily add series name and number to the title of your books. Very nice indeed for maintaining the order of books in a series.

I honestly don't understand why anyone with even a moderately-sized eBook library would NOT wish to use Calibre.

HarryT is totally right.

I would like to add collection management.

Jbcohen is possibly correct for those that keep less than 10-20 books on the kindle but I doubt this is addressing the op's problem.

There was a thread somewhere very recently addressing this problem. Maybe in the main kindle thread or calibre device forum .I can't remember.

I think the answer was to delete the calibre configuration directory.

Oops here is the thread.
