And I always thought we were just better looking... Oh well, an argument for another day.

Now, if you will please excuse me, I've got to order a few more cases of Limonata.

So the surprise that Apple appeals almost exclusively to people who also fall within a very narrow and inbred social group is....

None. Jobs was a marketer, not an innovater. He identified a group of people who not only have money but turn loose of it easily and went after them.

Puff piece.

I actually like Snow Leopard and have played around with a version by Leo Hazard (http://leohazard.com/) running under VMWare on a Windows PC. However, Ubuntu is just as nice. My biggest problem with Mac vs PC is summed up in this article from Intel:

In years past, PCs dominated the budget friendly market, with Macs ranging anywhere from $100 to $500 more than a comparable PC.

I have seen comparable Macs priced well over $500 more than Windows.

I think Jobs started out as an innovator but later cast his freedoms in for gold.

You can find whatever you want with a survey and the way you interpret the results... I actually know PC users who fit the so-called Mac criteria but don't know a single Mac user under 30+, none of whom fit the Mac survey results - hilarious way of reinforcing one's prejudices...

Seems like the Apple and the Apple 2 were pretty innovative in the 70's as was the (for the times) hi-res screen on the early Mac allowing video editing/typesetting capabilities. Then the whole icon thing started with Apple AFAIK and even the ipod was reasonably innovative.

Sure they market, but there was a lot of hands on soldering involved before the first Apple was launched.

I do not currently own an Apple product but I strongly feel that Steve Jobs made significant contributions to todays technology other than marketing.

I know. They price compare the entry level Apple products to mainstream/brand name PCs ignoring the fact that 1) there are less expensive PCs, and 2) PCs go on sale.

Wozinak designed the Apple II and II+

The Mouse/Icon/GUI interface was build and tested by Xerox's PARC (Palo Alto Reseach Center) in $100,000 mini computers years before Apple copied them. (Check the PARC Wiki. Shucks, I'm old enough to remember when the Apple II was first released. Along with the Radio Shack TRS-80 and the COmmodore PET)..

I stopped reading at "An unscientific survey..."

The distinction between PC and Mac is one without a difference; they're both PCs.

From what I understand the PARC interface was rather convoluted though. Like you had to click one of the three mouse buttons to start a selection, then a different one to complete it.

And to be clear PARC did not develop the mouse itself. That was created more than half a decade earlier by a man named Douglas Engelbart (who envisioned it to be used alongside a chorded keyboard).
