eBook Promotion

Can anybody advise on ways to help promote eBooks? So far I've done the following:

- Twitter
- Facebook
- Website
- Blogging
- Getting involved on forums
- Talking to other writers

Am I right in assuming creating a writers platform takes time and there's no easy method?

I basically want to make sure I'm doing things right and any advise would be much appreciated.

The first thing I would recommend is that you redesign your website. All Flash websites look very sexy, but do little for Search Engines. As I presume you want to promote your books via your website, you need to make it easy for search engines to spider it.

Well I'm sure others here will have different opinions, but I've always found that keeping it simple, especially for a site like yours, is what the search engines like.

So HTML pages, keep your images small enough so that they download easier and don't forget to add your website in the jpg meta. You can do some really cool things with CSS and Java, so maybe just keep Flash for the header.

There's no one system, and yes, building support takes time. Amazon is, hands-down, the big promo arena; they not only have the majority of the market, they have thousands of readers who won't buy or even get freebies from anywhere else.

Blogging/tweeting/etc. about topics not directly related to your book can help--build a readership interested in whatever you have to say, and they'll want to read your books. However, if you have a talent for annoying people on the internet, this method can backfire. Being clever is good... but as Scalzi pointed out, "the failure state of clever is asshole." Quietly writing good books is better than getting a rep as an arrogant, pushy jerk. (I have no idea if this advice is directly relevant to you.)

Elfwreck, I think I may have been slightly annoying on the net however, this is down to inexperience as all this is a huge learning curve for me.

I have a dream and writing is my vehcle to get me there.... Appreciate your feed back people thank you
