Converting to Epub using Calibri

I have a set of pdf's which I need to convert to an .epub file. I read in the Calibir documentation that .pdf is the worst format to use to convert in Calibri. Can someone let me know what format I should convert the pdf's to so I can eventually convert to an epub file. There are many programs and ways to convert pdfs to as I have the entire Adobe Master Suite.

Any help?

IMHO

EPUB

There is not much to be gained by converting to something that may LOSE more (layout, style) details

Converting to TXT loses the most, all font style

Yeah, don't bother. Not worth the hassle.

Once it's a PDF it will be a problem. All of the conversion problems are a result of the file having been converted to PDF. It is the conversion to PDF that is the "Humpty Dumpty had a great fall" event that creates all of the problems.

If you have the full Adobe Acrobat Pro application you are probably best off using it to convert to some editable format. If available, convert to HTML. If it doesn't offer HTML export then use MS Word and then resave from Word as "HTML Filtered". You can then use Sigil to convert the HTML to an ePub and to use it as an editor to massage the errors.
