Question Kobo books gone

I've installed the Kobo app on my new Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition.
Quite surprisingly, it didn't show a single book in my library.
I checked on my Kobo touch. When syncing, all my ca. 200 books (originally bought via Kobo) have been deleted.
I went to the Kobo website.
In "I'm reading" I only saw 9 eBooks, originally from WHSmith (or whatever the company was, that was merged into Kobo), but not my 200 original Kobo books.
I found them in "Purchased", though.
I manually had to set bookmarks for all those books (all to page 1), then I had them in "I'm reading" again.
And now I see them in my Kobo apps and on my Kobo touch and re-download them.
Question 1 to me: What has happened here? Was it just my library or a general glitch?
Question 2 to me: I guess, all my original bookmarks are gone? Or is there a "sync to furthest read" option? I sure hope so, else I manually have to flip through the 20+ books I had started and the maybe 50 books I already had read.
Strange...
