"Recommended for you"

How can I get rid of the "Recommended for you" display on my Kobo Touch? (And on my Kobo desktop for that matter.) I don't need it, and it uses up screen space that could be used for more book covers.
Thanks for any help.

On the Touch, click on the "Recommended for you" and select "Shortlist". Books on your shortlist will then be displayed on the bottom portion of the screen.

That doesn't solve the OPs problem of, "it uses up screen space that could be used for more book covers".

Short of looking up how to install an earlier firmware (1.9.14 being the last without the advertising), there is nothing to be done. And even if you do revert to the better, earlier firmware, you still only get 5 covers shown on the homescreen.

Since I got lucky and heard what was in 1.9.16 before it was pushed, I am still at the far superior 1.9.14 and have not left "airplane mode" (why they just don't call it "wi-fi off" is beyond me) or connected it to the desktop software since then to keep it from updating. Kobo no longer gets my business. I shall never buy another book and certainly never a new e-reader after the 1.9.16 advertising and the VERY shoddy Vox. Either a 16GB PlayBook (1GB RAM, 1GHz dual-core, 16GB) or a Lenovo IdeaPad A1 (512MB RAM, 1GHz single-core, 16GB storage; my brother's with the Navy and they determined that the IdeaPad was best Android for the sub-$250 price range and he's had no problems with his. 'Tis a LOT snappier than the sluggish Vox) for the same $199 price tag.

Making too much about it.

Personally I think People in general are making too much about this. I dont see the issue with it. I usually ignore it and that seems to work

That said, it is just my small opinion of it!

1.9.16 is better than 1.9.14, faster page turns and crisper text. What's wrong with using Shortlist JDgrumby? Then you can buy and sync books again, get over it.

Perhaps for you it is, but for many it is not.

I'd like to use the shortlist, but it always reverts to recommended.

Sharper text?

Ltr; there were two releases of 1.9.16; the initial one had an issue where the shortlist selection reverted to the recommendation instead. That was fixed in the second release of 1.9.16 (but I don't recall the build numbers).

That unfortunately doesn't do much for me. I have the first release.

I'll be sure to wait quite a while before accepting the next firmware release until sufficient regular users have given its thumbs up.

I'm afraid I don't have much confidence in the beta testing of these releases after the 1.9.16 fiasco. I find it incongruous that it made it through beta testing.

Actually, it does solve their problem since it uses the space for additional book covers. Five of them, which is double what the prior versions of the firmware offer.

And why is it taking them so long (going on 3 months?) to release something to fix the problems?

I have no idea why this build is taking so long. But remember that when we beta test things, sometimes it won't effect our devices. And some devices, for whatever reason, react differently.

Why don't you join the beta group? It isn't a cult

I really, really, really, don't want to. But if it will help with page turning problems, I may. How do you join?
