PRS-500 Reader freezes at "Starting up"

I didn't use my PRS-500 for a couple of months, and, of course, the battery is completely drained up due to a self-discharge.
When I connect it to the wall AC adapter (through a dedicated connector on the reader, not through a mini-USB), it seems that the device is not charging; the LED on the left edge does not shine. When i'm flipping the power switch, it erases the screen, shows the "Starting up..." screen, and the LED on the left is blinking yellow for some time; then LED turns off again, and nothing more changes on the screen.

Had anyone experienced this problem? Could it be turned back to life, or it is the battery completely dead to the point of not being chargeable?

Are you sure the AC adapter is actually working?

Yes - i have other devices with the same connector, and use this adapter to charge them all.

Leave it for a couple of hours and try again.

If the battery is very low, it will take a bit of charge before it will work.

It sat there for two weeks with no results.
However, it seems that the AC adapter really might be faulty... will check it with another adapter when available.
