Best new author

I have not heard about any good new talent in the book publishing industry lately. Has anyone read anything by a new author? Where new is defined as two or less books published? Any genre? Any publisher?

The only ones I can think of are from a few years back. Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese, who is a doctor and has published a few non-fiction books but this is his first novel. It came out in 2009. Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski, his one and only, came out in 2008. Anyway both of these books are excellent and I hope to see more by them!

Looking forward to seeing others' responses to this.

A gave you three examples in the Best Living Sci Fi author thread...but it seems you've tightened the reqs to two books instead of three.

Genevieve Valentine. One novel out, Mechanique, which was released last year. Won the Crawford Fantasy Award and is currently one of the nominees for the Nebula Awards.

Also enjoyed Maria Dahvana Headley's Queen of Kings. First novel as well (although she had a nonfiction book out a few years back).
