Need your help to keep free 3g!

PLEASE add your comment at the following link saying you do not want these links to "theft of free 3G" published at hackaday.

The hackaday site generates VERY MUCH traffic. We do not want our free 3G to go away because of this posting. Thanks.

I agree with the sentiment, but it won't do any good. Some people just can't help but ruin a good thing. The 3G access is already limited on some of the newer models anyway. It's only a matter of time.

You know... I'm all for getting a little bit extra out of the things that I purchased. Not stealing things, but other "extra mile" things. Like...rooting/jailbreaking a phone, installing custom firmware on a PSP, things like that.

But, this really irks me. I don't have a 3G Kindle, and it bugs me. I hope that Amazon sends their version of Gestapo out to introduce a few boots to a few butts.

There are always outliers and they stand out from the mass. When you meet one, you'll understand.

I wouldn't worry about it. Amazon and the carriers will know who is abusing the service and can cancel their accounts if they see fit.

I'd hope that is the case, and not that they decide to cancel the 3G feature due to abuse. Like RainingLemur I don't even have a Kindle 3G, but still.

The worst I see happening is 3g is limited to the Amazon store only, which should be possible both as a firmware change (bypassable) and with filtering by the carriers. It wouldn't make sense to kill it off completely because some are tethering when there are technical measures that can make tethering still possible but pointless.

But before all that, chances are they'll just ban people abusing it. Once they start doing that the problem may all but go away anyway.
