I knew I was acquiring useful knowledge (all knowledge is useful) from this site, but it really came home to me last night, when my teenage daughter was talking about SOPA, and I talked about it being killed in Congress. I haven't gotten a "you DO know what you are talking about" look from her since she was 6.

That's awesome! I have found forums to be a great source of information both for my business (Internet marketing) and for my hobbies (ereading, astronomy). A LOT of my news in my favourite fields comes from forums.

A quick question in a quality forum will give me several excellent, well thought out replies in a day or so.

It is like "crowdsourcing" my support team and my research.

I spend *way* too much time here, but I do love this forum.

Lots of intelligent people for many walks of life, many political persuasions, multiple countries and all willing to help (or at least give their opinions

).

There should be an option to delete a post while nobody had a chance to read it. Sometimes you can edit a post BEFORE anybody else can read it, and then it won't show that you edited it. Only Mods/Admins can delete posts. I could request a delete, but it really isn't worth it for either me or the Mods. It never should haves happened in the first place. The forum software is *supposed* to prevent multiple postings in short timeframes to block spam robo-posters.

Oh no, I meant automatic delete request - instead of a Edit button, a Delete button. And it only works if it has not been read by anyone else and only for a short amount of time. Double posting might not happen as often if you preview the message first even though you know it is ready to post, and then submit from in there.

Apparently she showed it to her friend and they had a good laugh.

I give up. I will just keep my mouth shut until she is 18. 21? 30? When does this stop

You will always be only as good as your last comment.....sigh. But hopefully for only a little while if it isn't what she wants to hear.
