prs-300 has nothing on display
y wifes prs-300's screen wont turn on. After hitting the reset button the red light will come on when connected to usb or wall charger but if I try to turn it on the amber light comes on solid and the reader does nothing and the screen shows nothing. If i plug it in after that the light stays amber and the reader does nothing. The only way to get the red charge light back on is to then press the reset.

Perhaps the battery is dead? You cannot bypass the battery and use only A/C. Try charging it for at least 4 hours on the wall charger before resetting again.

In addition to charging it for a very long time, try a hard reset next time, if you haven't already. This tells you how. WARNING!! Hard reset will remove everything on the 300!

I've tried it on the wall charger but the red light goes out after around ten minutes. And for the hard reset i cant get the screen to come on to get to it.

Ya I'll keep trying resetting and using different charging methods. It was on the wall charger for over 4 hours earlier today.

The battery may be completely dead. Try it charging overnight, and if that doesn't help, it might be time to retire it.

I have something similar. When I leave to work, it works fine. On the way back, it won't turn on. The amber light flashes and nothing else happens. The first time I thought that I had missed that it was almost empty, but it happens every day. Then I assumed it was the battery, so I replaced that. Still same thing happens.
When I plugin the A/C, I can immediatly turn the device on and the reader reports (after booting) that the battery is almost full. After the booting I can unplug it from the A/C and it works again. It looks like sometimes the reader thinks it is out of power. Yesterday I noted that when I plugin the A/C that when I wiggle the connector, the red light turns on and off. It looks like there is a loose contact somewhere for the connector and possibly the battery. Of course it is out of warrant... |

Try letting it discharge fully, then connecting it to computer.
Takes a few days to discharge I think. But resetting it a few times seems to speed the discharge up. My Sony PRS-600 has frozen several times, and different times different things seemed to fix it. Mostly resetting, connecting to computer, resetting, connecting ......... It has always come back to life, but sometimes only after I ignored it for a few days. Helen |
