There are some PDF structures that the Kindle's PDF engine doesn't support and that lack of support can result in this symptom.
I encountered one such PDF, a download from Archive.org, in which almost all pages displayed blank on my K3 with only a few images displaying. None of the text displayed. I "fixed" the PDF by opening it in Adobe Reader on my WindowsXP PC and printing it to a PDF virtual printer driver to create a new simpler PDF. The printer driver I used in PrimoPDF, available free. There are a number of similar apps available. These install as a printer allowing any application that can print to create a PDF file. If you use MacOS you'll find a similar function built into the OS. |

I have a few PDFs like that myself. They are usually scanned books from archive.org, not digital texts that were converted to a PDF later. I think it may have to do with the contrast - when I play a little with the brightness/contrast-settings on the Kindle, I can see a shadow of the text, but it's not enough to read it. Maybe you have something similar

I've seen this happen on many occasions. If I open the PDF with Preview on my Mac, then save it again as a PDF, it always works.

i think they are somehow formated poorly. you have to open and save them again with a proper software or do text recognition before saving.

"poorly" only in the sense that they use good, legitimate PDF structures that are poorly supported in many lightweight PDF reader apps. The re-save and print-to-file operations recreate new PDF files that are constructed without the more complex internal structures.
