Can Calibre Library be optional

Hello,
Thankyou very much Kovid and everyone for providing this software to everyone.

I wanted to know that can I switch off the calibre library. I have very low hard disk space and I cannot afford to save the same file at two places.

If I may suggest it would be fine if Calibre saves the ebook in its original folder in hard disk with an extra folder containing its metadata.

The Calibre is the best software I know.

Thank you all.

Wellcome here.
Calibre use his own database structure. Once you have import a book you can delete it on the other place. Thats how the software works. If you have less space on one drive you may be have a other location for the library.

There is a sticky at the top of this subgroup on this topic. (second one).

Ebooks (except for scanned images) take up very little room compared to other media, so an 8G USB stick would hold thousands. If you are really short of space, consider keeping your original files on a stick or external hard drive.

H, Adityaasopa.
I had some similar concerns. But after spending several weeks using Calibre to organise my ebook collection, I must agree with the others who have posted:
Save your Calibre library wherever you think best. After a book is imported into the Calibre library, you may safely delete the original file --whether a download, torrent DL, or whatever. It is just not needed anymore. The Calibre library directory does not contain an "extra" copy -- it is the standard database of every file of your ebook collection. As you say, it is the best ebook software. Trust it, and use it! Put the Calibre library on a flash thumbdrive if you have no room on your HDD.

My current Calibre library has about 700 books, but takes up less than 1 GB of hard drive space. Wherever you choose to store it, it is an economical use of space.
