Series for young readers

I have a 10 yr. old granddaughter who is an avid reader and very bright. She has devoured the Harry Potter series and re-read it several times. Can anyone suggest another series that would be appropriate at that reading level that would also be appropriate for a 10 year old? I would want to avoid the sex, etc. so perhaps an older series? Sorry, this isn't my genre ...

Julia Golding's Cat Royal stories. There are a few minor expletives, and some very minor sexual undertones, but nothing to worry about, and I am not saying this from the viewpoint of someone unconventional, these aspects are so minor they can be dismissed. They are fabulous books and Julia Golding is a fantastic writer.

Maybe the Underland Chronicles (Gregor Overlander). It has some dark parts, mind, although the same can be said for Harry Potter.

Septimus Heap is friendlier and a bit closer in similarity to Harry Potter, probably more suitable for a 10 year old.

Nancy Springer - Enola Holmes
Eoin Colfer -Artemis Fowl
Peter Abrahams - Down the Rabbit hole
Miss Peregrine's Home for peculiar children (free I think) can't remember author.
as mentioned Bunnicula
Anything Terry Pratchett although he has a children,s series.
Robert B. Parker, Carl Hiaassen , Rick Riordan and I think Elmore Leonard have children's series which should be available as library books.

Lot of good books out there for children and young adults completely smut free, although I am amazed at the amount of YA books with explicit sex. Oh well I am an old lady.

Helen

PS forgot Milrose Munce and the Den for Professional Help.

BTW these books are fun reading for an adult even if not your usual genre, so discussion could ensue which is never a bad thing.

Full disclosure: I've prepared the ebooks mentioned below for Circaidy Gregory Press and Earlyworks Press
- Herm's Secret by Kate O'Hearne is a story of a young girl who discovers she is a mermaid, and has adventures with whales and her family while avoiding a crazed collector who wants her for his collection of endangered species.
- The Adventures of David and Tomoko, At the Court of King Arthur, The Volcano and the Black Box, and The Last Journey and Making Mischief by F C Menzinger is a series about the adventures of a young English boy, a young Japanese girl, an English adolescent from the 26th century, and Max, a doggy dragon time machine. This series has only just been completed, and will soon be available.

Wonderful lists! Thanks to those of you who took the time to respond. I'll pass these along and perhaps in the process be able to add some to this thread for others.

Thanks again !

I can also suggest Tamora Pierce, I first found her novels at that age and I tend to recommend to anyone that age to read, specifically females because her totallan saga starting with Song of the Lioness. All female heroine's overcoming some hard times set ahead of them, set in the medieval ages.

Skullduggery Pleasant series is pretty good by Derek Landy.
Lots of magic and mayhem and main storyline is a about a young girl.
(told from her POV)

Lately I've been re-reading a lot of John Bellairs all the books deal with magic, but not nearly as obvious and romanticised as most childrens books.
This is one of the more popular in the series The House With A Clock In It's Walls

I loved those books when I was a kid! I'd like to reread them someday.

If I am looking for something different at the library and nothing available turns up I will sometimes browse the juvenile list.
Only occurred to me after downloading a couple of children's books that were also categorized elsewhere.

Not that I would want to deprive a child of the chance of reading the book first of course. I wouldn't reserve it, but if more than one copy available, then I will give it a try.

Lots of good writing aimed at the younger generation, which I find strangely comforting.

The Percy Jackson series, the first is The Lightning Thief, by Rick Riordan.

The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart.

Both are fun series: the former is very popular and well-known, but I preferred the latter (then again, I am not exactly a 10 year old, so what do I know!)
