suggestion to discuss!!!

Would be nice if the front page of this forum would have a special short presentation section that will seriously talk about what makes the EE and PE devices different and in a particular category of its own. 99% of the reviewers missed this point and according to me it has contributed to become underestimated and discarded by a lot of potential buyers.

The company has not been able to make it clear enough, thinking that just juicy advertising will do the job.

Apple worked 30 years and more to get into PC selling ang never succeeded to overcome Microsoft market first place. In the head of buyers, PC and Windows are the same. WHAT Apple did instead has been to attract buyers toward another world... Ipod and Ipad. Once people have been convinced that tablet is more fun, light weight, longer battery life and a bunch of hassle free applications easy to install and use, and colorfull... Windows PCs became 'just a few times a month' necessary old style devices.

ENTOURAGE products are NOT just two screens put together side by side for the convenience of transportation. They are INTERACTING dual complementary added features screens. The ereader side can take notes, can upgrade ebooks initial potential greatly by adding hyperlinks to multimedia, web sites, notes, journals, audio files, pictures, etc. On the other direction you can save android tablet screen web sites on the ereader side, either as image or epub file. You can save as PDF file, send it as email, creates tabs... etc.

REVIEWERS didn't explore all the potential of the device and mostly just saw the two side by side screens, describing each one separatly. What's your opinion about this guys?

I'm a recent PE user and still know little about its potential. However, you're not correct when you assume that tablets in general have made Windows PCs a "just a few times a month" brick. Most Americans use laptops running some form of Windows. But in regard to your question about why the Edge(s) didn't succeed? The device is too intellectual in an era when technology is increasingly emotional ("social" network, etc.). Tablets, even or maybe especially the IPad, are inherently anti-intellectual, if only from the perspective that manipulating them requires just one finger and the ability to move that finger.

I bought my Edge specifically for research capabilities on the tablet side to enhance the reader side.

Spouky, there is one thing you must remember - Entourage is gone and the IP has been sold to a company in Russia. There will be no new eDGes unless the Russian company decides they want to expand beyond that country therefore there is no need to change the reviews of the past.

What few second hand units that become available on ebay and other sites will be bought by people that know the potential of the unit - again no need to change the reviews.

For those of us using the eDGe in either format, we know what it can do - or are learning its potential - but there is nothing we can do to promote the product because there are no more. I'm not saying the eDGe isn't a good product, in fact if my EE broke and I couldn't get a replacement from the European suppliers - they still have a few left for sale at the original price - then I would consider a visit to Russia to try and get one.

Nice to read replies...

First one make me think that people have been trained through years and years of remote control gadgets telling us that your life is a full success home if you obey to the command: 'easiness and laziness are symbols of happy faces'. The less you have to do, the more attractive is it. One finger task, no learning curve.

For the second reply, I know EE and PE are no more sold in North America, but I think the idea of a non Windows mutifunctionnal dual screen device should be promoted in some way, even if it may sound like reeducation of population way of looking at it. I PERSONNALLY prefer thinking before buying even if most just hurry to buy what everyone has bought... meaning what big companies want us to buy.

Spouky, you might enjoy reading some of the posts in the Archive at the top of this forum. There were many interesting discussions about why enTourage was going under and what they could do (or could have done) about it.

You never know, maybe the Russian version will succeed so well they will bring it back to the rest of the world.

Meanwhile my husband is looking for a good, large eink reader and there is almost nothing available! (He thinks the eDGe is too heavy -- silly man! )

Filark, Wow, it's a small world, because I think the PE is too heavy too. Probably the cheapest device your husband could get that would remotely do what he wants is a Lenovo tablet with downloaded reader software. But Lenovo's have gorilla glass, so maybe they're not featherweight either. What I love about the PE is that heavy though it may be, the risk of screen damage from dropping it, or a bird pooping on it (such as, ahem, a certain hawk ), or a branch scratching it, is pretty impossible. Also, it opens just like a--book? Is that what they call those things made of paper that have verso and recto sides?
