What am I doing wrong re: SD Card?

It's my first time using an SD card, and I tried to transfer a book I downloaded from the public library onto the (micro) SD card and then put the SD card into my Vox, and then read it on Aldiko.

By some miracle (ie. a little help from google search - ha), I figured out how to drag the book onto the SD card, and eject it from my computer. Then when I put the SD card into the Vox, it was listed in my Aldiko library. But, when I ejected the SD card from the Vox, the whole Aldiko app must have went with it because it's no longer on my 'All Apps' page. When I put the SD card back in the Vox the Aldiko app appears again on my Vox. Is this supposed to happen? What if I want to read something from Aldiko without the SD card in the Vox? I don't know whether I'm understanding the whole concept - am I doing this correctly? Thanks.

Did you move aldiko to the card? That is an option in manage apps.

When I first downloaded a library book with Overdrive, I was asked if I wanted it on the external card or not. I opted for the external, thinking I could then also read it off the card with my desktop PC. However, it seems that once you use the external card with an app, parts of the app also end up there. The Vox also seems to put a lot of other stuff on the external card just because it's there. You have to be careful how you remove and replace the card. You always have to unmount it first, or you can lose stuff. I've been careful, but now I can no longer find images I loaded on the card a couple of weeks ago. When you put the card in, if it bounces back out after making contact and you have to push it in again, I think you lose stuff. At least I think that's what happened to me.

No, unfortunately I didn't purposely move aldiko to the card - ha. I don't think I went anywhere near manage apps, either. But I think I might have done what oldyellr suggested:

Yep, not having used a card before, it took a few practice tries to get it into the Vox and ended up bouncing back out a time, or three. I think chunks of the program ended up on the card (by the looks of what was in the list), but then the whole app went with it. I think I will re-download the Aldiko app onto the Vox. I'd like to erase the SD card and start all over again too.

Thank you for your replies.

The first few times I tried to remove the card I tried to grab it with my thumbnail and pull it out. I then used tweezers, which worked. Then, once putting it back in, it kept bouncing back out again and I thought something was bent or broken inside. Only later did I discover that the card toggles in and out each time you push it. To remove it, you push it in with your thumbnail and it will pop out so you can easily grab it. Next, when you push it in as far as it will go, it should stay in.

I had all kinds of problems last night, including not being able to turn off the USB storage. So this morning after I turned it on, I was still having the same problems, so I decided to try resetting the Vox, and afterwards everything went back to normal, including the Aldiko app appearing back in 'all apps' (so I don't have to reinstall it).

I'll be more careful when using the SD card from now on. It doesn't go straight into the Vox if I'm not more careful though so that's part of the reason it kept popping out.
