What does this Smashwords error message mean?
The author name (in the cover image, the portion you can edit at Account: Edit Account Information, and your source document) don't match. Please make all three match.

Smashwords is an amazing resource. If you have not read the Smashwords formatting guide, make sure to take the time to do that. Just be methodical and it will all work itself out. The thousands of glitches and little tedious things to do and remember only make you sharper.

Make sure everything matches everywhere and it all works out.

p.s. As A side note I have noticed Smashwords slow down slightly in the beginning of the new year. A few days ago they were really backed up with new works. I think Smashwords is set to take off this year, their biggest year yet, and I am so glad we are on board.

It seems to have been caused by me not putting the author's name on the cover image. I added it to the bottom corner (which spoiled the layout), and it went through okay.

Agree with above. The Smashwords Style Guide is indispensable for anyone wishing to post an e-book. That said, I just posted a story to Amazon and had trouble with the Word file so I downloaded the HTML. I was a web designer fro several years so I understand more than the basics. Got to say it was wonderful to directly tweak the document at that level.

Smashwords does not accept html, which I kind of understand and kind of don't. Seems to me if I have an html file that was good enough for Amazon, then it ought to be good enough for Smashwords. I'm sure it isn't that simple, but it would be nice to think that Smashwords is heading its meat grinder in that direction.

I think the meatgrinder is amazing. It's amazing that people have allowed it to be used as the only way to put up eBooks on Smashwords. I'd love it if every author and every customer complains about the meatgrinder.

What really should be in place is the ability to upload already created ePub. Get rid of the meatgrinder. The meatgrinder is why I do not purchase from Smashwords and I would like to.

They need to standardise on one file format because of all the other companies they "distribute" to, so I think the best you could hope for would be html, but even then I can't see that happening. Writers know doc files, even if they don't know how to format them properly.
