My Sony is Bricked.

So, my 505 re-booted without warning ( which isn't uncommon. It does that sometimes), however this time it kept re-booting. I reset it, but it didn't solve anything. So, I opened Calibre and deleted all the books. I safely removed it, and checked. It seemed to work properly. So I decided to connect it again, and add some books. Which was a mistake. When I disconnected it, my was Sony blank. It didn't respond when I slided the power switch

I am at a bit of a loss. I am charging it now, in an attempt to see if my Sony works tomorrow. Otherwise I'm without an e-reader until I have the money to buy a new one. sigh.

Edit: Nope. Still shows the same behaviour. When I connected it to Calibre, an error popped up saying it was unable to communicate with the device . I am wondering, though, if the database is corrupt. Not that I know how to fix it...

Did you do a soft or hard reset? If it was a soft one it might be worth trying a hard reset to see if that clears the problem.

I've no idea how to do that for a 505 but I'm sure the procedure is documented here somewhere.

I did a soft reset. I think. I'll try a hard reset when I get home tomorrow. There might be hope after all .

mikaela,

please note that a hard-reset as described in the WIKI will wipeout InternalMemory (IM) erasing all your books, notes, bookmarks a.s.o

I would first try to:
reset the reader (paperclip ....)
flip the power-slider, amber LED should be shown,
within the next 1-2 seconds connect to USB (calibre closed)

The USB-connected screen should show up
and three removeable medias should show up in Explorer / Finder (Windows/MacOs) READER = IM and one for MemoryStick and SD-Card Slot.

Now you can backup your files and may try to run CHKDSK on IM or format it .

Remove-safely, disconnect USB, hopfulley UI will show up.

He/she has already deleted all the content from the device, see original post, so there is no problem with doing a hard reset.
