Transferring books from Mac to Sony reader

It is not really an issue, but if someone could help me or explain it to me would be great. Since I got a PRS-T1 I (I LOVE IT!)for Christmas, I was able to transfer my books from my Mac to my reader. Some were bought on KOBO and some from the ibookstore (just two). These two from ibook store don't seem te transfer because it says Invalid. It shows as a blank square with title in my Sony ereader library, but I cannot open it. Like I said, its not a big deal, its only two books, I never buy from ibook store but this was from a while ago. Is there a way to have them transferred or just forget about it?
Something else:
I am not familiar with Calibre, I have it downloaded on my Mac and when I plug in my Sony PRS-T1 it seems automaticallyl transfer newspapers (I set that up maybe two years ago?) and don't know how to delete that.
Do I need Calibre, what does it do? Or can I just leave it to the Sony software?

The iBookstore books are only designed to work on apples devices. That's why the ereader cannot read them properly.... welcome to the wonderful world of DRM. I can't really blame apple as it's the publishers that make Apple do it. From what I've read the DRM is pretty strong, but that was a little while ago, things my have changed.

I've had calibre for a little while now and what I've learned is every time i open it (or read about it in this forum) I learn something new. It truly is an amazing robust piece of software. I'm truly surprised the programer (member of this forum) has not been written a fat cheque buy one of the ereader companies yet. I like to think of it as photoshop CS for ereaders. 90% of photoshop CS users only use 10% of the program, I feel the same way. It has everything for everyone even though you my not use it to it's full potential the option/feature is there when you need it.

Have you tried to look at the news setting in calibre? Maybe uncheck the ones that you don't want synced.

If you look in the Wiki for DRM#ePub_DRM you'll find a little more background detail. If you google for "apprentice alf" you'll find more things as well, though nothing as yet is able to convert iTunes-bought books
