Book Database

Hello, I am looking for any ideas on keep up with a database of books (both ebooks and "real" books). Right now I am thinking of just keeping all the books in a spreadsheet.

But, I would love to use an app on my Android phone to scan the bar codes on my paperbacks and have it populate all the info. Then I can manually add in the ebooks (I don't have very many yet).

Basically I want an easy way to quickly see what books I have, what books I want, have read, etc from both my Android phone and computer.

Any thoughts?

Not sure about Android, but for your computer you can use Calibre. It lets you add Books by simply providing the ISBN. You can even add multiple at once if you have one ISBN per line. If you so choose, it will automatically download description and cover image. It is also great for your ebooks, of course.

Not sure if it has the ability to export your library information in a format that lets you see it conveniently on your phone. Better ask that in the calibre forum.

Edit: You cannot scan the ISBN as the barcode in the back of the book is the UPC, not the ISBN.

The Goodreads app allows barcode scanning. You can use Goodreads to make different shelves and categorize your books too.

Thanks. I installed Goodreads and it seems to do the job. So far all the books I have scanned have auto populated all the correct info. Thanks for the suggestion.
