				Recent updates: "Growler" Message

Ever since the 8.30 update, when I am converting a mobi to an epub, a window pops up asking me to locate the "Growler" application. The list of apps/plugins/preferences offered below the request doesn't show the app, so I hit "Cancel," and the app "unexpectely quits." This happens every time.

I don't understand why this is now happening (also in the latest 8.34). When I go back to the 8.29 version, I don't get that message, hence, I don't crash. Can someone tell me why that message even appears? I'm on a Mac, operating in 10.6.8, and I have Growler on my system, but it isn't really an "app." Why is it somehow "talking to" Calibre?? Any help on how to turn that off, or if a fix in in the works, would be appreciated. For now, having just updated to 8.34 in the hope it had been fixed, I am hoping to find 8.29 still available on Calibre's site to download. Thanks. Shelley |

Growl is a notification system for OS X. It allows applications to display messages on the users screen as an unobtrusive popup that disappears after a set amount of time.

Not sure what the notification system has to do with Calibre. Is disabling it going to cause me to miss out on any features of the program? For now, I appreciate the fix. Shelley |

All you lose is the IMHO noisy, flag waving. Done Converting, Done this, Done That... messages that appear even if Calibre is minimized |
