Thinking about getting PRS-T1
I was going to do the $50 trade-in credit back in December but couldn't find out if they would take my Pocket eDGe (and I still like to play with it sometimes), and Sony is no longer selling them for $99.
However, Target has them on sale for $99, and I'm again tempted (can one have too many ereaders?). But I have some questions: How functional is the web browser? can you visit dropbox.com and download .epub/.pdf files directly, for example (even those with DRM authorized to same AdobeID)? calibre server? can you go to, say, Google Books and download an .epub/.pdf from there? will it download and then open the .acsm file (where DRM is involved)? Feedbooks/Gutenberg? I think I would mostly be using this for library books, and experimentation of various kinds (maybe rooting eventually) and if the browser doesn't let you download content, it's a significantly less attractive proposition for me. I assume the library downloading involves being able to open an .acsm file and request download of the associated .epub/.pdf file using some sort of web interface, so I'm hopeful some of the above would work. If not, however, I would have to think about it. One reason I never use my Nook is that it has effectively no browser and though my requirements for that functionality are minimal, it doesn't even reach that low threshold (short of rooting that is). Also I see an update just arrived with some 'DRM improvements'. Any chance that adds ability to work with B&N DRM? That would be nice to have, at least in theory. |

I very much like my T1. Yes, the T1 works well with Dropbox through the browser. I use it to transfer books via Dropbox, including those with Adobe DRM. I also use the broswer to download purchased DRM'ed books from Kobo and public domain books from Feedbooks. I have not tried it with Google Books. It is really great for downloading books from the public library. I think the browser works fine for an eink device. You have to set your expectations appropriately. I really like that you can highlight words in a book and have it look them up in Wikipedia or do a Google search. Others have reported that it works with the calibre content server, but I have not tried it myself to verify.
Sorry, it does not work with B&N DRM'ed books. I wish it did too since I also have a Nook Color. Hope that helps! |

I have not been successful trying to download purchased books from the Google Books site. I get a 'not connected to the network' error even though I am clearly connected. I have to say it's the only site I've had that problem with. I've downloaded directly from Kobo and Dropbox without problem. |

I would totally recommend the T1. You can download books straight from Project Gutenberg (I have done it before), but the cover art won't be very good.

And I can't figure out the Kobo store on my T1. I can get to the site but can only get the first page or two of each genre. I can't navigate further & since I can't there has been no book I want to try & buy direct. |

I say totally get one. The PRS-T1 is amazing. I love it mostly for the small size where it fits everywhere I go. I read MUCH more with my E-reader than by carrying books everywhere. I have fell in love with longer novels since I now don't have to carry those dictionary-tome-sized books around. I save those for the sofa or bed reading at home.

I got mine a couple weeks before Christmas and every day is a thrill ride with it.
I like the ease of using library books and the ability to do tag sorting. Dropbox and calibre content server is also very easy. I am so glad I got mine. |

Hey Tom,
I can definitely recommend picking one up! They are so light and easy to carry. My only bad point would be the lack of available cases when compared to the Kindles, however you will find that many of the cases designed for Kindle 4 or Kindle touch will fit the Sony. Mike |

need some help
![]() dear friends i have some questions if you kindly take time to answer: 1. since i have to read many articles from jstor i need to know whether it is possible to read footnotes in sony e-reader (T1) or not? 2. i need to know whether you can copy texts from a pdf/epub file and paste it somewhere (i would like to save myself from writing note cards for my research) or i have to type the text in another application (e.g. word)? 3. how compatible is the e-reader with pdf files regarding navigation, font size, page orientation, and readingin landscape mode? i really appreciate your kindness for reading my questions and sharing the info. if there is any better option available i'd be more than happy to know about it. thanks in advance |

Thanks all. I bought a T1 last night and have got it set up. It is everything I'd hoped it would be, and more. I am totally thrilled with it! (well, I wish the stylus had a home..) It blows my Nook Touch out of the water, and though it surprises me to be saying this after less than an hour, my Kindle Touch as well (in a number of respects).
