Synching - lost user manual
Hi all,
Just tried to synch my new touch - and it behaved very strangely. All of the preloaded books are now on the PC - but are no longer on the reader. Obviously it did not behave as expected. But what's worse is that the user manual/guide is no longer on the reader or on my PC through the reader software. How do I get a copy of the user manual? And what do I need to be reading to understand synching? Thanks. Vic Love the reader - it replaces the nook that froze after a week. |

Still missing the manual
This morning - it added back the books it had copied from the reader to the PC. But it would still not copy all of the books to the PC.
I disconnected. Tried again. And then it deleted a book a had on both the reader and the PC. Uggh. Do folks use the software - is there a way to stop it from automatically syncing? Still not sure where to find the manual except on-line. Bummed - I was really falling in love with the reader. Mostly I want to be able to print the notes I put on the reader. Wondering if I should be using ADE instead - although it's not recognizing the reader. And the only way I could pick up a library book was to bring it into the reader software rather than ADE. Vic |

Here is a previous post with the user manual.
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...13&postcount=2 ADE doesn't recognize the T1. You can download library books directly on the T1 wirelessly. There is an icon called "Public Library". It asks for your location and then finds your library for you. The new Sony software needs some fixes. The only way to stop the auto-syncing is to hit cancel really fast when it starts. It has some kind of bug that doesn't remember that you told it to sync nothing. Many people are using calibre to manage their ebook libraries. Although that doesn't help with notes which is also why I am struggling with whether to use or abandon the Sony software. http://calibre-ebook.com/ |

Bookworm - thanks for the manual link.
I guess I'll have to avoid the Reader for PC software - except when I want to print notes. I was thinking that reader for PC would be the easiest way to back up the the reader - so now I'm not sure what the best way to back it up will be. Unless I know the exact title and it is available I have not enjoyed using the library interface on the reader. Too many books are not available - and I hit my limit of 3 holds right away. At the time I was mostly trying to find a book from the library to see how it works. I installed Calibre when I still had the nook (all of a week) but it did not feel particularly intuitive to me. My head is swimming with all the combinations - Calibre, ADE, Reader for PC. It's not at all clear to me that there is one spot where I will be able to easily manage the reader. Thanks again. Vic |

Calibre can be intimidating at first. However, there is a separate forum where people can answer your questions. It has loads of features, but you don't really have to use most of them if you don't want to. There is a 10 minute video tutorial on their website that provides some basic info.
The best way to back-up the reader may be for you to use ADE to manage your books. Then drag and drop the EPUB/PDF files from the Digital Editions folder to the Books folder on your Sony through Windows Explorer. It doesn't help with the notes though. It was easy to back-up notes with the earlier models, but the T1 firmware is organized different so no one has posted a method yet that circumvents the Sony software. |
