Recalculate all author sort values
Hi all
I'm trying to update the author sort title as some of my author sort format is firstname lastname, while others are lastname, firstname. If I click the button I'm expecting all the values in the Author sort column to be updated to lastname, firstname, but this doesn't happen. Nothing seems to change. Have I misunderstood the functionality, or is something not working as expected? Version is 0.8.33. Thanks |

![]() Are you saying there's a bug, or asking if the data in my database is inaccurate? Either way, it's a PEBCAK problem. Unfortunately I don't know how to fix it. I have an author called Amy Stewart, with sort Amy Stewart. See attached. If I edit the metadata, and click the button between the author and the author sort, it updates the author sort to Stewart, Amy, which is what I want. If I then click and hold the button, and select Manage Authors, and click the Recalculate all author sort values button, the value is changed back to Amy Stewart. ![]() Any idea how I update all author sort values to lastname, firstname? Thanks |

Thanks for your help so far. I'm not sure what's happening now, though.
If I now go in to the "Master override" (i.e. right click authors, Manage Authors), this now appears correct. Amy Stewart has a sort of Stewart, Amy. However, if I right click on the title, and select the book, the sort order is still wrong, showing Amy Stewart as per the picture in my second post. ![]() See images. MasterSort shows there is no sort author of Amy Stewart MasterSort2 shows Stewart, Amy. Sort shows the author is still being sorted by Amy Stewart. AuthorError shows what I see when I right click on the book. ![]() Any ideas? Edited to add: If I change this author by right clicking on the book, changing the sort to Stewart, Amy, and clicking OK, this fixes it. If I then use the "Master override", this doesn't change it back to Amy Stewart, it stays as Stewart, Amy. Last edited by sparrowdclxvi; 01-05-2012 at 05:13 AM. Reason: More info |

![]() Anything existing.. Stays (until you change it). The only thing will be the Author sort box will now be RED if it does not match (the Master) BTW Master is my term and not the official designation. You can still override the Single title (but doing repair actions might correct it at a later time. |

OK, then I think my question(s) becomes:
1. How can I identify all the books in my library where the sort order will be shown in red? 2. Once I have identified these books, is there a bulk process of some sort to update them all? This would save me having to open each one individually and click the button. Thanks |

![]() ( I think you will find the menu item ![]() The failed results will show. Select all (ctrl-a). "E" for Edit Metadata (bulk mode). Tick the box Automatically Set Author sort. Click OK |

That's brilliant, thanks.
![]() Now, got anything that can read my mind and update all the garbage metadata tags to the way I like them? ![]() |
