Pocket Edge - bricked??

This is my first post! Thanks for providing a place for me to find help.

I bought 2 Pocket Edges from Woot as an early Christmas gift for my kids. They used them during some traveling we did in October and then I put them away so they could actually have something to open Christmas day. The PEs worked fine during our trip, no issues whatsoever; but I noticed something different when we charged for the first time after Christmas. My daughter's PE fully charged and the light turned solid green. Her PE works fine. My son's PE charged all night but still blinked green when I finally unplugged it the next day, as if it hadn't fully charged. He complained about it not turning on and I thought that maybe it just hadn't charged fully, so he plugged it in and a little while later it worked. I don't know if he tried using it when it was not plugged in but he played around on it for more than an hour yesterday.

Today, the green light is solid but the PE does not appear to be on. We've tried pushing different buttons and resetting with paper clip. The PE will turn off as usual when you hold the power button for several seconds. Then when you turn it back on, the green light still comes on solid but nothing appears on the screen; it is just black.

I've spent a couple of hours searching different forums and am just getting more confused. It looks like maybe this PE is now a brick? I am not sure how putting it in the freezer would be helpful here.

I don't think this is a software issue because we've not installed anything other than some e-books. My kids have used the camera and audio recorders, and they are pretty careful with their PEs because they know I can't afford to replace them.

If you have any helpful advice, it would be appreciated more than you can ever know.

When my PE looses power completely (i.e. the red light starts to blink) it generally needs to be reflashed. In fact, it usually does it by itself (i.e. when I plug it in, then turn it on it does some sort of updating evidence because it goes to the setup wizard at start up although apps are still there it loses some data). I think it is due to the faulty memory hardware it uses. If all else fails try to reflash.

Welcome, j.maybe!

I think, since it worked for a while after its hibernation, your PE will probably come back to life if you have the patience to work with it. Both Vicinc and tekknogenius have good suggestions, and you never know about the cooling trick -- it might just be the jolt that battery needs!

Good luck!!

Thank you for the suggestions. It's been discharging for a few days now...I guess it will take a long time since it's not really using power for anything? I'll put it in the freezer to see if that speeds up the process and I'll post an update when I've worked through these steps. I appreciate you all taking the time to offer help.
