Books not appearing on home page

Only recently bought a kindle touch, and put some .mobi format books into the document folder. Any reason they do not appear on the homepage? I can actually find the books if I do a search and type the authors name or book title, and I can open the books from there. Strangely after doing the search in addition to the list of missing books down the bottom there is a section called "items not indexed", and it shows 6 in brackets (there were 8 books I added) but when I go into it, there is nothing there.

Anyone know what the issue is?

You're probably in "Collections" view on the home page. Change to "Author" or "Title" sorting and your books will show up.

I tried that, and when I sort by title or author nothing appears. Zero. Now all I can get to appear are collections when I sort by collections. Is this a weird bug or something? I don't even get the default dictionaries that came with the kindle to appear that were before. Unless I do a direct search for them.

You've tried rebooting your Kindle, presumably?

All I can suggest, then, is that you do a Factory Reset. You'll have to reload your content, but it should fix it.

Ok, I managed to get it to restore correctly, however when I added my content back the issue occurred again. However I managed to narrow it down to one book which seemed to cause the issue. Adding the other books minus that one the kindle functions correctly.

It's a .mobi format, so I'm not sure whats wrong? Are there different types of these formats that kindle doesn't work with?

Sounds like it's perhaps corrupt in some way. Try converting it to ePub and back again to Mobi using Calibre; that should fix it.

Is it possible that the book has DRM? If so and you sideloaded it, that might be your problem.

Another thing that impacts some kindles is that the devices date gets messed up. If you have a lot of books, then new books can get buried in the most recent first view because they don't come with the correct date.

If you have a 3G device make sure its connected to the network for a bit to get the date correct.
