Using the book name for the cover.jpg

Hi, I am sure the answer would be somewhere on the forum - but I was unable to find it...
I would like to ask: Is it possible to name the cover images (the default name is cover.jpg) according to the name of a book the image belongs to?

One more thing: I prefer the Last name first, e.g Asimov, Isaac which in the folder structure is saved as Asimov_ Isaac. Is it possible to configure the Calibre so it would not change the comma to underscore?

Sorry with the title - it should be cover.jpg not over.jpg - I don't know how to fix the typo...

You are messing under the skirts of the Library

Read this sticky https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=119175

There is no basic reason for average Joe's to be inside the library structure. You can do everything needed from the GUI.

Shame on me, I dare to look in the folders on MY COMPUTER...

Shame on me, I am asking why my books from calibre have an underscore in their names instead of the comma as it is usual in the civilised countries...

What a shame that I cannot put easily all my calibre book files in one folder (for whatever reason) because one of the files I want to keep always has the same name…

Bigo2; If you were using a tool that stored data in a SQL Database would you be dumping that data and wanting to change it?

The fact that Calibre uses a mixed model of a true database and files in directories should be inconsequential to you.

Be glad at least that Calibre does not use mangling on the file names and directory names to totally obfuscate what it IS doing.

Using the book name for the cover.jpg

Ok, I undestand - but instead of telling me "DON'T TOUCH IT", like if I was a little child, wouldn't be easier to tell me that it cannot be done. That it is ipossible or something like that?

As a matter of fact I do not mind that undescore...

However, keeping the same name for everything, which already applies to all types of the ebook files Calibre can handle like .mobi, .epub, .pdf etc. etc., would be, at least I think, better. Why shouldn't that apply to the .jpg?

Thanks

Yes and No. Within the calibre library the name cover.jpg is used and can not be changed. However if you use the save to disk feature, while saving the book the cover (if option to save cover separately is checked) will be saved with the same name as the book.

As previously pointed out the calibre library/database is not user configurable.

This is not what you asked, you asked about the library structure itself. Sending the books to the device can be in any form you wish.

Again in the below quote, if you ask the right question instead of making assumptions you might find out things.

You CAN easily put all of your calibre book files in one folder. When exporting books form calibre you have complete control on how they are exported. If you want all of your books and covers in old giant folder, use the Save to disk feature and do it.

Update: In order for the complete metadata to be present in your exported books, never use a file manager to drag books directly from your calibre library. Instead use any of the 4 or 5 ways to export books from the library.

Save to Disk
Send to Device
Connect to Folder
Connect to iTunes
Content Server

Good Reading.

Thanks dwantny - this is the answer I would expect to get.
Anyway, the next time I would better think twice before daring to ask...

Happy New Year
