Manga for PRS-650

What would be the best method for viewing manga on this model? I have tried converting to LRF and ePUB with Calibre, but the images lose resolution.

Zip up the pages, rename the zip to a cbz and convert to epub via Calibre. View in landscape.

When you say zip up the pages, do you mean create a zipped folder out of a folder with JPEG images? And when converting to EPUB, what should I check off?

When converting with Calibre, you can choose "Tablet" under "Output Profile" in the "Page Setup" tab, and it won't resize the images to fit the output device.

I just tried this. A large part of the images are lost... I can see maybe two thirds of the picture. Also, it looks better in Portrait mode rather than Landscape mode...

Let me make sure I am doing everything right.

Firstly, I right-click the folder containing the manga images and press "Send to - Compressed (zipped) folder.

Next, I drag the zip folder into Calibre, where it comes up as "CBZ".

Then I go to the subheading Convert books, and press only Tablet, under Output profle, in the Page Setup tab. I leave everything else unchecked/default.

I have to admit, it's been a while since I did this. I just tried it again, and the results are pretty screwy. It's almost as if the size of the first image is taken as the size that the rest are clipped to. I don't remember having such problems in the past, doing pretty much the steps you outlined above. Sorry, I guess it's too buggy to use at this point, or perhaps you need to enable some other options at the same time.

I should say that I tested the output files on my PocketBook ereader, so this is not a just problem with your Sony ereader.

Make a zip file. Drag the images into the zip. Change the suffix from .zip to .cbz. Drag the .cbz into calibre. Convert. You don't need to check anything.

Calibre can handle either .cbz or .cbr (which are .rar files). They display very well.

Looks like a very stretched, low-resolution outcome.

I remember now that I used to always convert to PDF rather than EPUB. You should also go into the "Comic Input" tab and click "Disable comic processing" if you want the images to stay the same. Or, you can leave the processing on and disable certain aspects of it from the same tab. I tried converting a .cbz file this way and the PDF file looks fine on my PRS-T1.

So far, this is the best option I've seen. (PDF) Thank you very much.

Also, just wondering, how can I lock to a specific zoom option? The lock button simply freezes the image in that position and I am unable to maneuver about the photo, as well as the rest following.

Or is this only available with PRS+?

The method I described looks good on mine. I'll try pdf though. Does this leave blank borders at the sides and top?

On your prs-650? And yes, it does. It must be viewed with zoom. In landscape mode it's more readable however. Any ideas for my question above?

It depends on what options you choose in the "Comic Input" tab. The biggest improvement of PDF over EPUB is that the conversion code seems to be much less buggy in Calibre. Outputting for the "Tablet" format in EPUB is pretty broken. Maybe it's better for other device types.

If you would consider using PRS+ (custom build from default repository or the nightlybuild linked by MiK77) you will find options for
  • drag image while in zoomlock
  • (basic) cbr, cbz support - zoom will be retained after page-change, page will scroll to top-left
