link to dropbox for the VOX

I've tried the original link in the Best Apps thread, but its not working. I've got dropbox on my PC now, but can't get it on my VOX yet.

Could someone find the time to do a "dummies" version for the instructions.
And my VOX is not rooted.

Is there some reason you can't just download the app directly from dropbox?

I just installed Dropbox on my PC and registered. Mow, when I go to
https://www.dropbox.com/android with My Vox and try to download and install the app, I get this message:

Quote:
Web page not available
The Web page at market://details?id=com.dropbox.android might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
[etc]
However, when I go to the same URL on my PC, I can download Dropbox.apk right away. What's that about? I guess I could email the apk to myself, but why?

Hmmmm, they must detect that the vox is an android device and do a redirect to the market. So my advice is no good apparently.

[edit]: If you use opera mobile, you can set it to appear as a desktop browser which might get around this problem.

Also, obviously you can copy the apk from your pc to your vox, email it, etc. There are all kinds of solutions to the problem.

Maybe. I didn't expect to see the automatic link to "market", which appears to be a no-no for Kobo at this stage. Anyway, I emailed the apk to myself and installed it on the Vox from Gmail.

Okay, if anyone is still looking for a way to install Dropbox on their Vox, here's the apk file you can download from my public Dropbox folder:

Once you have the apk on the Vox, look at the top. You will have an arrow pointing down showing. That means the download is complete. Grab the screen at the top and drag it down. You will see a list of the apps downloaded. Click on the link and accept the install request.

I hadn't understood about that so thought I'd make a point of noting this for other folk who may get puzzled too.

That's actually showing the Android Notifications

Who knows; maybe Alarms might even show up there.... Would anyone maybe have set a bedtime alarm on the Vox?

Thank you muchly! Where did you learn that about sliding the screen down? I always went to All Apps / Downloads. There's nothing about it in the user manual. I sure hope Kobo comes out with a new manual that has everything in it once this thing is truly out of beta.

Honestly, a lot of the vox's interface is just default android stuff...is kobo supposed to document every aspect of the device and operating system? The manual would be a thousand pages long...

Well, default android stuff may be second nature for people coming from the Google smartphone culture, but those of us coming from Windoze and only owning a "dumb" cellphone, if that, are brand new to it. So, any of you that use android "tricks" to navigate the Vox, feel to educate us Luddites.

Um... I could tell that Sooty (Sue T; ie WIFE) was getting a bit annoyed and was hearing that downloads were never finishing. So I borrowed the Vox from her to take a look, and just experimented.

Actually, this is my first android device. But the first time a new icon appeared in the status bar, I wanted to know what was going on so I tapped the status bar and the double arrows appeared indicating it could be pulled down!

Looks like you worked at it harder than I did. When I first downloaded free books, I saw these little arrows pointing down into trays on the status bar and didn't know what they were and they just stayed there. I tried poking them, but nothing happened.
