Umlaut in fetched newsfeed not displaying

I am new to Calibre and just tried the news feeds using the pc Calibre viewer to see what they look like.

I had Calibre fetch the Kurier (German newspaper) and then opened it in the Calibre viewer. The German umlauts however do not display as such but with the odd letter-number display of unrecognizable symbols (like seen in old emails).

Is this normal? a failure of Kurier? a failure of Calibre? Are German graphems not recognized?

Really want this to work for me, as getting my news electronically would be PERFECT!

For information: I am in Austria, my pc is "German" with German OS, etc. and doesn't have this problem anywhere else (it is not a pc langauge compatibility error). Usually this has happened to me in very old US pcs with English OS.

What's up?
