"The Joy of eReading with Kobo"

Just noticed that Canada's The Shopping Network's got an hour coming up (in 15 minutes) for Kobo. Given how bad their technology showcases generally are (well, most of their showcases - the only ones that're watchable seem to be for Wolfgang Puck appliances every few months, IMHO), this should be good for a laugh.

Hmm. No recommendations or anything showing on their Touch, but the clock icon's there. Guess they're sticking with 1.9.14 for the demo to avoid showing that it's got advertising at you...

If anyone in Canada was considering it, it's $139.25 for a Kobo Touch, a case (which they haven't shown yet, at this point), and a $10 Kobo gift card (probably the standard $10 promo Kobo gives with new account activations). Shipping & handling's included and it's set up for 5 payments (first payment'll include the sales tax) rather than all at once.

EDIT: And they're mixing in pre-made commercials amongst the live hosts demoing. Classy. Not.

I have to laugh at the "OUR PRICE: $189.99" crossed out and priced at $139.25. I guess in fairness the $189 includes S+H (and I guess the case), but $50 shipping and handling vs any other normal priced at $139 seems like false advertising.
White one does seem to be showing the bottom carousel, black one seems to be older firmware.
EDIT: this is too painful to watch. The lady with the white one just about pushing her finger thru the screen when "touching". And I don't care how bad your eyes are the font size they are demonstrating doesn't do it any favours for someone who has never seen one.

The Kobo's normal price, without any accessories, is $139 (with the $10 credit). Most cases are $25-$50, so the $189 regular price isn't too outrageous.

And, despite showing it being an hour-long showcase on the schedule, only the first half-hour is Kobo. Sad. :P I'd figured that they'd also have the Vox and use the second half-hour for that.

Neither did I. I think in the U.S. it was a limited time promo.

I got a $10 gift code by email after my KT purchase in Canada.

I used it to buy "A History of the World in 100 Objects" (Canadian version: http://www.kobobooks.com/ebook/A-His...Apw/page1.html), for just over $10 (with a promo code).

Fascinating book, but it seems to be listed as "Not available in your country" if I use the U.S. link: http://www.kobobooks.com/ebook/A-His...67w/page1.html. Odd, Amazon.com has it in Kindle format, although it's $20 ...

Ironically I found the large color illustrations made this ebook fairly unreadable with the KT, so I ended up reading it on my larger color tablet instead.
