decisions decisions
My first ereader was a Pocketbook. I quite liked it until it died. I was traveling and needed a new one FAST so bought a Nook and hated it. Returned it and got a Sony PRS-350 which I quite liked. It was stolen last week and now I am in decision mode. I bought a Archos 7 Home Tablet which I like for reading in bed. But it's waaaay to heavy to travel with. I also hate it's touch screen as it's very clumsy. But I quite like the Aldiko software.
So... I want a new reader for carrying around. Lightweight. Do not care for wi-fi as I have more books on my computer than I could read in a lifetime (book junky with no time lol). Prefer e-ink. Long battery life and quick page turns a priority. I was considering a Sony PRS-T1 as I understand it can use Aldiko but thought I'd see if anyone had any suggestions that I should look at. I've seen mixed reviews about the T1 but most are comparing to Kindle and I do NOT want a Kindle. Thanks! |

Given your criteria and preferences the Sony T1 would be the one to go with. The other brand you haven't mentioned is Kobo. I don't personlly like it but some do. Between the Sony & the Kobo, I'd go with the Sony. Hands down. Some people do have problems with it but I think it's just the learning curve. You have to get used to how much pressure & swiping you need to turn pages, access the dictionary etc. It has wi-fi but you don't have to use it after you register the device.
May I ask why you don't want the Kindle? Is it because you've got a huge epub library already? That would make perfect sense but the K4 non touch is a nice, light little reader. You could always convert your epubs to mobi through Calibre. They don't always look as nice but you'll have use of a relatively inexpensive, light ereader. I know absolutely nothing of Aldiko so I'm no help there. Sorrry. Good luck with whatever you choose. |

I have a huge epub library and do not want to be tied to Amazon. Guess I'm just biased against the Kindle hype. But then I hated all the hype around Apple and I now have an Ipod, Itouch, and Iphone.

If your library is in ePub format, I agree that a Sony PRS-T1 would be an excellent choice.
