Question regarding fonts, italics and fbreader180 app?
I recently changed fonts on my PB360. I went from Droid to LexiaDaMa and I had spotted a misspelled word in the current epub that I was reading. So when I opened it up in Sigil I noticed the sentence below that was in italics. So when I went back to reading the epub I noticed that the sentence that was supposed to be in italics...wasn't in italics. So I reloaded Droid and it didn't have the sentence in italics either. I do have all 4 LexiaDaMa fonts loaded on the device. I am using the custom fbreader180 app or whatever its called.
So my question is shouldn't the PB360 display words that are in italics. And if so then what am I doing wrong? And if not then why not? Also does that mean that words that are in bold don't show up either? I searched through the PB forum but didn't spot anything that gave me an answer either way. Thanks, |

FBreader pretty much ignores styles, try CoolReader3 or Adobe viewer

Are you sure about that troll05 ? I know FBreader ignores flow and format elements, but I don't believe it ignores text formats such as bold/italics.
I use the default FBreader almost exclusively to read e-books in epub format and I recall seeing bold and italic formated text. The font I'm using BTW is DejaVuSans. |

IIRC, FBReader180 supports <b>, <i>, <strong> and <em>.
Basic support for styling with CSS styles was only added to the latest version from SciFiFan (FBReader180h). It supports font-weight:bold and font-style:italic. I don't know if these changes were integrated into the better known version of FBReader180 from GrayNM. Edit: SciFiFans version: http://pbook.s3.amazonaws.com/fbreader_180h.zip (Direct download, I'm not aware of a home page.) GrayNMs version: http://code.google.com/p/fbreader-pockebook/ Last edited by JustForFun; 12-18-2011 at 01:57 PM. Reason: added links |

From what I could tell from reading the h version from scififan is at least 5 months older than graynm`s version. So these two guys have disappeared from the scene and we have no new developments since the beginning off 2011? That is too bad.

SciFiFan seems to be not active here, GraNM was and maybe is.
Maybe FBReader in its current state works for them, so the don't see a need to develop it further. The base version of FBreader used on PocketBooks is rather old and it would be a lot of work to add better styling support to it. Newer versions of FBReader have better styling support, but they were never adapted to the PocketBooks. There were attempts but they didn't work out. Perhaps you should try the CoolReader port, as it is supposed to have better styling support. Last edited by JustForFun; 12-18-2011 at 02:35 PM. |

I always clean up my files with Calibre, and get the fonts I want in the conversion - and I am pretty sure I have not have any problems with italics or bold not showing, at least that I can tell. The FBreader version I have is with page turns - Coolreader's latest version has also got wrist page turn now.
GrayNM is still active in this forum, though I guess the easiest is to send him a private message. |

So I installed coolreader and played around with it. And while it was nice to have italics and bold in areas where it had been coded for it...it just doesn't stack up to fbreader180. I've been too spoiled by fbreader180 so I will just have to do without that feature.
Maybe someday graynm will comeback and finish/continue working on it. |

Looking at a Calibre generated EPub it seems it uses CSS styles for bold and italics, so you won't see bold or italics in paragraphs with FBReader. Headers have an own "style" setting in FBReader, that's why you see bold and/or italics there.
@Guns4Hire: Did you try fbreader180h? Looking at the last changes in GrayNMs repository there weren't any big new features or bugfixes. SciFiFans version is based on version 0.9.x, don't remember which particulary. Out of interest, what are the features of FBReader you miss in CoolReader? |

Nothing I can really point to really. Just that fbr180 seems way more polished and looks way better and I guess I'm used to it. |
