i think the new firmware has landed. it certainly seems to have at sony uk.

Thanks I'm downloading it now. Its either a big file or on a lousy server. I've got a 5mbs connection and Windows is showing a download time of 1hr 6min

Download speeded up after about 10 mins. All 103mb now fully downloaded. Charging my Reader now as apparently it needs a full charge before running the up-dater.

Mine is installed, and seems to be working OK - but I wasn't really having problems before, so I can't tell if it's fixed anything.

This is what they said it did:

I have never had any problems either so I am going to be a wimp and wait and see if there is any gremlins in the update before I do it.

I took the precaution of saving the previous version a couple of weeks ago, so I could go back if necessary (I think!). Anyway, I can open books and read them, so it hasn't done anything obviously horrible. The dictionary works, and pages turn using either buttons or screen - so far so good.

As I feared, this update does not fix the font bug. I didn't experience the freezing issues, so I can't tell with any certainty whether it fixed them.

When a font other than the original is used, italic or bold text will occasionally fail to display as such. Switching the font or font size around tends to fix this, but only temporarily.

It's really quite annoying.
