First Vox software update is now available
First things first: this is a stability release focused on the wake-from-sleep issue. No new features, yet.
Please make sure you have determined whether you need the system patch app first before updating, and as always, a good wifi connection helps. Other than that, let me know how it goes! Happy updating. |

JW--where in settings can we verify that the update has done its thing? What should be more stable--we know about the sleep thing, but can we expect better video play, for example?
EDIT removed something I later came to understand better and wrote about a coupla posts later. My update seems fine. Last edited by taming; 11-24-2011 at 01:10 PM. |

PROBLEM SOLVED
This update seems to have bricked my Vox. The unit restarted as advertised but the touch screen is inoperable as are the soft keys at the bottom of the unit. I therefore cannot open it up nor can I shut it off. Pushing the power button quickly makes the unit sleep or wakes it up but on wakeup, same thing, no touchee, no feelee. I am perplexed. Anyone have a similar experience or perhaps a solution other than a reset? 4 Foot OK: Fixed, If you are patient, (not my best thing), and hold down the power button for 10 seconds or so, the unit will power down completely. On restart, everything seems just fine. Sorry for the panic, but perhaps it will help someone else. Thanks for the update Kobo. 4 Foot Last edited by 4Foot; 11-24-2011 at 03:23 PM. Reason: Clarity |

I had two very different experiences on my two Vox. The first one I updated manually from the check for updates in settings. I had no messaging as it was happening and no real way to know if anything changed. My suspicion was that it had not. I turned off the Vox. Turned it on again, and then did the check for updates and I had a very different experience, identical to the one listed right below this paragraph.
On the other Vox, the device "discovered" the update, and then went through the more familiar routine including giving me messages along the way and doing a restart. I'm thinking that if folks maybe jumped the gun (as i appear to have done on my first Vox), you may not really have the update yet. |

The install went smoothly-no issues whatsoever. My Vox experience has been very good thus far. It does exactly what I wanted it to do (Press Reader, Zinio, web browsing, e-mail and video) quite well.

I hope all is well....
I used the Kobo Reader Update Search tab, and it found the update. I then let 'er rip. All seemed fine, with the only anomaly that when I got to the screen that said it was now installing the downloaded update...the green progress bar only went to three quarters of its travel before the Vox did the RESET and then told me that the update was successful.
I have played around with most features and all seems well. James, if you are reading, would that be a software bug that the green progress bar did not go its full travel before the Vox rebooted itself? Should the bar have travelled the full length to have had a complete error-free update? Other than that, my Vox seems to have survived its second firmware update. Did anybody else notice their green progress bar to only go three quarters its travel before the Vox automatically rebooted? Thanks, |

Update OK but Reset to Factory not working correctly
I decided to do a Reset to Factory before getting the update to try and clear up some issues with an unreadable font.
I used the "Reset to Factory" in the Privacy menu to do a Reset. The Reset seemed to go fine. It downloaded the update and everything installed Ok. Vox seems to be working well. No problems so far with sleeping. However, the factory reset did not fix the font problem. Also, it did NOT clear out the internal microSD. All my files were still there after the Reset. I think this is why the font problem still exists. I tried erasing the internal microSD but it leaves the system files alone. Should I try and delete the files with the Vox attached to my computer? I may just try and exchange it. Larry ![]() |

You can do a full factory reset of the device (which will change all system files back to the day zero state), and then apply the current update. Instructions on full factory reset can be found here:
