Well I Did It
I went & got another T1 at Best Buy tonight. Just couldn't hold out any longer. It is registered & charging now. I haven't downloaded the firmware update yet. I'll probably do it tomorrow when I 'm less tired. First I'm going to try it out & see if i need to though.
One thing I found upsetting is the way Best Buy has the Sony's presented. Not a one worked. The T1 was frozen on book loading & the 350 was frozen on a blank page. All the other readers were fully functional. and when I asked for one, the salesperson kept trying to sell me the 350. I finally told him again that that wasn't the T1 & I already have one. Then it took him 10 minutes to find one. Finally had to get a manager who went right to it. Seems the box was so narrow & didn't look like any of the other reader boxes. ![]() I guess since they only had 2 in the store it was just as well they didn't work. ![]() |

Why would you hold off on the firmware update when it works to fix possible touchscreen issues?

I was looking at the T1 at Best Buy the other day, finding a shelf sticker price of $129.99 ... but underneath, where the actual devices are located, the shelf info said $99.99. I asked a salesperson about the conflict. He doublechecked in the system, coming back with "It'll ring up at the lower price"; however, he made no effort to remove, or edit, the prominent, higher-priced number. The demo unit worked just fine; I didn't notice any 350's?

Best Buys poor presentation of Sony T1
Quote:
With Christmas fast approaching and people swarming all around the readers... I overheard a salesperson steering a customer away from the T1 saying "I wouldn't recommend the Sony". I interrupted the conversation and asked the salesperson "why not?". She couldn't give a specific reason. She confessed she had never actually seen a functioning Sony T1 so I pulled my reader out of my purse and showed it to the customer who decided to order a white Sony T1 ONLINE. When I arrived home, I wrote Sony an email about Best Buy's representation of their product. I received a canned reply that basically said "oh well". I seem to care more about their readers that they do. ![]() |

My local BB didn't have a working T1 on display when I bought mine a couple of months ago, but I was happy to see last week they did. It was running a demo program like the other readers on display and looked as though it would compare favorably to someone seeing the entire display for the first time.
As an aside, I didn't update the firmware on my Sony 505 for two and a half years. It worked fine until this year. I updated the firmware and it's running just fine again. Enjoy your T1! |

Ditton on the Best Buy I went to minus the 350's. What I found worse was that they had none showing in stock, every single CSR was running around helping people & I had to wait. I stood in the line to pay for something & did it that way. lol
They had the T1's in stock but only in the back. Anyone walking buy thinking of buying it would see none in stock, not be able to grab a salesperson to ask about backroom stock and they'd just leave. No Sony sale & no BB sale. Not very bright. The guy I dealt with told me they had lots left. No kidding because none are on the floor. Enjoy your new T1!! (again!! ![]() |

It's so frustrating when everyone working at Best Buy has no idea what they're talking about. To me it's never even worth going there because they all seem to be halfwits and everything is cheaper online anyway.

In less than 5 minutes I gave them more info than the rep did but they bought it already during Black Friday. They didn't want touch & they didn't like the Nook so I recommended the Kindle 4 non-touch. It was cheaper than the keyboard one & they got a $10 Target card. The hubby was stubborn & wanted to keep what they had but the wife backhanded him in the shoulder. LOL I don't expect sales people to know stuff about everything they sell but I do expect them to say my knowledge is limited to what I read on the boxes sorry. Mabye suggest they check the stores website for more details etc. But of course they don't do that. |

I have always found Best Buy to be the worst. Shopping at Target, I've never had anyone actively try to sell me anything. The most I get there is "are you finding everything alright?" which is fine by me. But at Best Buy they can get really pushy, despite being ignorant of almost everything they're selling.
