books loaded with calibre showing in files but not in library!

I have had my kobo touch since the release and have had some problems but have always managed to fix them.

Now, however, I am having trouble loading books using Calibre. After sending the books, I eject the device and then unplug the usb. The touch processes content but the books don't show up in my library. However, if I re-connect to the computer I can find the books in the kobo touch's files even though Calibre now says they are not on the device.

I have:
-deleted the original files, ejected the kobo, restarted it and then tried the process again
-tried ejecting from calibre and from computer
-tried dragging and dropping to the kobo (it worked for two books, I ejected, they were in the library - tried again with a third book - didn't work)
-re-started using the pinhole on the back

I have the latest version of calibre and version 1.9.12 on my kobo touch

*Edit* having fiddled with it some more it appears that the processing content stops at 9% then the smiley kobo comes up

Are the books in the SD card or in the main memory?

SD card support (kobo) is not very stable at the moment.

I bet the problem is one of the epub files no good. I saw this behavior on a brand new touch when I tried to load my whole library to it. It turned out my library had one new epub that was never loaded on my older device and that file was what caused the problem. I ran some sort of epub check on it and it reported many warnings. I am able to open that file with Calibre's reader application fine so I read it on the computer instead of the KT.

There is an issue in Calibre 1.9.12 and lower where deleting ePubs will result in you being unable to add that identical ePub again. When 1.9.13 is available in the next day or so it should allow you to delete the "expired" records and add those books again.

If you have access to a sqlite query tool you could run:

select * from content where bookid is Null and ___ExpirationStatus =3

If rows are returned that is probably your issue. Connect to Kobo to update your library and run it again in case the rows are related to kepubs which should remove the expired rows for kepubs correctly.

If that is the case tomorrows Calibre version should fix it.

Not sure if this applies to anybody else, but for quite a few firmwares I have been unable to load books through Calibre if I have already deleted them once. They would show on Calibre, but not on KT. What I do is change the author's name (usually by adding the author's middle name/initial) and the book loads for me then. Maybe this will work for you.

Thanks Tim, your response explains why I've been having problems with calibre and the KT. Looking forward to the new firmware release to get it fixed.

kobokobe - see Tim's post above for an explanation of this.

Interesting; Calibre is really at version 0.8.24 and KT is at version 1.9.12 but Calibre will soon have an update and so will Kobo fixing some things and maybe introducing new features hopefully bug free.

I appreciate the rapid development and bug fixes.

anyone have a solution yet? I thought it was just one book that was causing my problem but now I can't seem to load any books. This is seriously frustrating me and I am thinking about giving up on the kobo all together.

The most recent calibre version should allow you to delete an expired books. If you don't have expired book you must have a outer issue. Please run in debug mode and send me the output and explain exactly what you are attempting. Can you add books via drag and drop.

Im also having issues putting books on my KT using calibre. Does anyone know where the issue is? Is it the KT? or Calibre? When I connect my Kobo to Calibre it says the books are on the device as soon as I eject it processes the content and starts up and everything but there is still nothing on the device? Its brand new so I don't know what's happenning.. I never had this issue with the KOBO 2 kinda regretting upgrading now..

I had a Kobo touch for short while, a couple of firmwares ago and also a quite a few Calibre versions ago. I did have this problem, and what I did to solve it, as I recall it, was remove the two calibre files (metadata.calibre and "something else".calibre) on the Kobo.
I was not happy about the (lack of) cooperation between Calibre and the device, but that is supposed to be fixed by now.

I do think that dropping the calibre database files was a red-herring; something that could not make any difference to how the Touch looks for books.
