nook clicks down below the "N" button?

Finally got the nook I ordered from Target in today. Seems like a really nice machine. When handling it I did notice that it sort of gives and clicks when gently pinched right around where the usb cord plugs in. I noticed it with just regular handling.

Doubt it would prove to be a problem. Everything seems very sturdy and well built otherwise. Curious if it's just mine.

I just tried it, and sure enough there's a very light click/creak sound that doesn't happen all the time. I never would've noticed (and in fact didn't until you said something, despite having a STR since June). It seems like it's maybe a slight looseness of the bezel around that area but it doesn't seem like it's a problem or will get worse over time. Well, unless you can't stop squeezing it now that you know it's there .

Looking at teardown photos, I suspect that it's because of the cut-out in the frame required for the USB port. That part of the back doesn't seem to have as many clips as the top or sides.

Mine clicks there too. Sometimes I do it absent-mindedly while I'm reading and drive my wife crazy.

Thanks guys. I actually walked over to a B&N last night and tried it with the 2 they had out and they didn't have it. Not really a problem. Glad to hear it isn't just mine.

However, my battery is down to 72% (and I just got it yesterday). It was at 82% went I put it away last night. Wifi off.

Did some googling and wonder if my sleeve somehow repeatedly woke it up somehow, though I was surprised it was down to 82% last night.

I don't think Target will exchange it. Be curious what they'll say at the B&N store.

I've found that, even with wi-fi off, that "two months" life they give for the battery is being extremely generous. I leave my wi-fi off most of the time unless I'm shopping for new stuff, and I need to charge it about once a week.

But I tend to read three or four books simultaneously, so I think that constantly switching between books might be draining the battery like that. The "two months" estimate is probably with wi-fi off, with text as small as possible (to minimize page turns), and reading one single book during those two months.

The 2 month battery life is based on the assumption of 30 minutes read per day and only so many page turns during that time (I don't remember how many, maybe 100?). In other words, it's a completely fabricated value that has no bearing on reality. For example, this is why Amazon was able to "increase" the battery life of the Kindle from 1 month to 2 months when the Nook STR shipped -- Amazon changed their calculation to assume the same 30 minutes of reading that B&N used, instead of their previous 60 minutes of reading per day value.

yeah, I wasn't expecting 2 months, but I also wasn't expecting it to drain while sleeping-- 10 percent overnight and then another percent every hour or so this morning. I was down to 70 percent on an hour or two worth of use.

I know battery calibration can be off on android devices for the first cycle or two, but this seemed like a bad battery to me

Luckily, Target was willing to swap it out for me. The new one doesn't click either.

When you say you "leave the wifi off", did you actually physically turn it off in the Settings, or are you just assuming it's off if you're not interacting with the store? Because in the latter case it most definitely is not off and I've seen my Nook run down to 0% after 7 days of being completely idle but with wifi on. With wifi off, it'll last more than a month idle (because I normally read on my phone, the Nook doesn't see a lot of use outside vacations).

I turned it off in settings.

Got my replacement charged up and loaded with books and it's sitting at 99%. The other one was already in the 80's by this point. Pretty sure it was a bad battery (and I feel very fortunate I ran into some good help at Target)

I experience great battery life on mine ... 75% after more than a week. I keep checking it just to make sure it's really true. The nook original was driving me nuts with the constant need to charge.

I have no 'click' at that location but the power button on the back does click; rather, it is somewhat loose with a lot of play. I never use it so I don't [yet] care.

I can run on the same battery for about a month. It's amazing.

I have that too. It used to annoy me, but I found out that it doesn't matter.

95% after 3 days (with very light reading so far).

Guess I can quit compulsively checking the settings and read some books

I have two nooks, one has the click you mention the other does not. The one with the click ( it has clicked since day one) is the oldest device, about 6 months old. Never had any problems with it, unless the click sound bothers you I wouldn't worry about it..
