Screen Grain

My screen has tiny specks of "grain" throughout. Is this normal? Or is the screen supposed to have a clean, opaque look (w/o grain) while it's off for example.

I have never heard of a speckled grain background for the Sony screen. There is another post around here that mentions small specks in the background that are thought to be smaller than a pixel.

These are new reports as far as I know.

Yup, they're really tiny, smaller than a pixel - but prevalent throughout.

mine too

I also have micro grains throughout my new 505, which are definitely smaller than a pixel and make the screen look quite grey, ie darker grey than the silver frame, a bit like low quality recycled paper or newspaper...You only see the grains if you look hard though, not when you actually read!

A little disappointing then wrt to contrast, but I like the functionnality of this thing a lot!

I'm hoping maybe they will fade a little with time (only had the 505 for three days and not had much time to read).
