Quick question and for USA customers
![]() Do you guys have Tethering working on your Gingerbread smartphone without paying extra? I just discovered that mine does not work on my Galaxy SII, on Tmobile, not without paying. However, if I remove the SIM card and use it on my previous Froyo cellphone, it works. Not sure if is a hardware block or carrier block or a combo. Any comments? |

Some carriers disable tethering on android phones, most do it so they can sell you a tethering plan and activate it. I know At&t can detect when you are tethering and warn you that they will activate a tethering plan on your account if you keep it up, I don't know about T-mobile so you might want to research that before rooting and activating tethering.

No, no planning on rooting, but will keep my old Sidekick. Because I travel, even international, I really need that feature.
With Sidekick, I can also make USA phone calls (via wifi) even if I'm in South America. I'm afraid that feature was also dropped on SGII. By the way, thanks for clarify. |

I'm on t mobile in the us with an Android phone running gingerbread 2.3.5 and I tether with no problems. I do have it rooted and have a custom cm7 ROM. I'd go with the previous solution and try rooting. You can always unroot if you need to return it.
